Loosen that screw in the bottom about 5-6 turns then with a flat bladed screwdriver carefully at the bottom pry between the chrome ring and the head light bucket.

Got it.....But...It sure doesn't go back on very easy. It seems like the bottom doesn't fit right or pull in tight enough......Hopefully it won't fall off on the road.....

There is a small nub on the bottom of the bucket that the headlight ring snaps over.

The first time I changed mine I thought I was going to break the lens re-installing it.

Just make sure the the ring is seated all the way around.

I'll check for the 'nub'......I don't think it's seated because it looks open at the bottom.....I was also worried about breaking it. Hard to believe I need to push it on harder........we'll see..

JK you're making this waaay to complicated. The same type of ring has been standard on bikes for years. I just picked up an M2 that had a blue HID and I hate them. So it had to go and a nice new H4 was installed. If you look at the ring, you will see a notch slightly off from the corresponding "nub". With the bottom of the lens and ring partially in, slip the notch over the nub, push the lamp in squarely and turn it until the screw holes line up. It's sometimes a little picky and sometimes it is easier to just line up the screw holes and slip the top of the ring over the nub and just bump the bottom in with the flat of your hand. Unless you're a mutant of some kind, you won't damage anything.

I've replaced may burnout headlights on all kinds of cycles...This Buell thing is just different. It is not the 'standard type ring'....there are no 'screw holes to line up'... there is only one screw at the bottom that actually lets a tab loose and the only way to get it off is to pry it off.....no turning like my kawi's have, this 'Thing' is for sure different. As Jramsey stated, it needs to 'snap' back on and it doesn't want too......And yes.....I've been called a Mutant before..but let's not go there...I just don't want to break or bend anything............I may even post a pic or two so you can see what I'm dealing with........

Since I was just out tearing an engine apart, I decided I had better take a look at my headlight before I said anything more, and mine is definitely not the same as you describe. Mine seemed to be no different than any of my older bikes and was just about as big a pain in the butt to replace, so a pic or two might help. I've had some that took a rather sharp rap with the heel of my hand, kind of up and in to make em snap into place. I don't like to pry much on anything, especially if it came off like I thought it ought to. And I meant no offense with the "mutant" term. I just never subscribed to the "if it don't fit, force it and if it don't force get a bigger hammer" mentality, and someone's idea of a sharp rap might be different than mine. It's a hard standard to put into words. Snap a clear pic of the bucket and one of the ring and I might be able to make a helpful suggestion.

I just dug out my spare H/L assy. and it has a hook on the top about 1-1/2" wide and a notch at the bottom for the retaining clip.

I does have a beaded edge around the entire circumference that the ring has to be expanded/forced over.

With out the lens the ring snaps on pretty easy but with it it's a PITA.

Sorry for any confusion.

No confusion......Got it installed thanks to your tip of not being afraid to be a man and install it........It was binding pretty hard but as you tighten the screw you just keep constant pressure on it and eventually, it snugs up nicely.....

And Willy......you by no means offended me...just havin' fun. I got a few pics before I put it on......

First one shows the only screw that holds the headlight to the bucket...

Next shows the clip next to my thumb....stayes in place
http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss28/jkgonzo/x1 007.jpg

Next shows the bucket. You can see the top 'nib' that centers the bezel in place

And these are just me showing off my pride and joy....

Thanks for the help guys.......

Great! Good looking scoot BTW, and that's a great looking paint job. Your headlight bucket is way different from mine. I have the pretty much plain vanilla headlight bucket. Latches on the top and 2 screws on the bottom sides. Don't laugh, but because you are wearing gloves I just sat here for 5 minutes trying to find your thumb in that pic! I'm going to blame it on me putting in a lot of time on my motor... Glad you got it on.
