Is it advisable to have a the TPS & AFV rest on my 00' X1 as a preventative maintenance? There is an HD dealer near my home and the cost is pretty reasonable to have them both done. My bike runs great but it slow starts and won't hold an idle right off the bat without giving it gas for 30 seconds or so. I'm not really interested in doing an ECM Spy as I have ZERO mechanical background.

squid - i got ECMspy and checked the TPS reset, mine was actually where it was supposed to be and it has 15k+ (speedo removed, not sure how many miles on it, race bike only)

Its super easy to reset, but I understand that sometimes its easy to take it to someone etc

If it is cheap, go for it

What cost is reasonable???? Most HD service labor is $100 an hour!! You can buy the dam cable for under $40.00 here is a link.

It would not hurt to have it reset....But don't pay for it. There are few places that will repair or even touch these bikes anymore. You need to learn some things on the bike and do it yourself! Get a service manual. It's easy to read and understand. TPS reset is easy and only takes a couple of minutes.

The slow start is normal for the X1. I have a 2001 and i have had it in the stock form and i had to hold the throttle a little until it warmed up a little bit. The bike is highly modified now and is 100% race. And custom mapped and tuned and it still has the slow start going on. No big deal to me i can live with that. }

No validity in resetting AFV. TPS yes.

Owens,

How did you verify TPS reset?

A lot of X1s including mine behave the same way and trust me a TPS reset is not going to solve this specific issue. If it really bothers you, you'll need to experiment with the values in your Cold Start Enrichment table to get it dialed in. That requires ECMspy software and cable and a lot of patience. And unfortunately due to the trial & error nature of the experiment, this is not something you could have a dealer do for you easily unless you are willing to visit the dealer multiple times.
Get the software and the cable and folks here will walk you through what you need to do....
