TIJ runs run one but having little to no filtration seems like an early death sentence for a street motor. His S1 is a work of art and may not be on the road every day

"i" run my ECONO force inside my OEM air box ...

PICTURES IF YOU WANT THEM, JUST PM ME ...

Why would you put on free breathing air filter and then put an air re-stricking sock over it ???????????????????????????????????

Just a quick note for the new guy.

Welcome Jamie. TIJ = The_italian_job

I've not seen many photos or discussion of open stacks on bikes here, but I don't read every thread either. Here's a link, scroll to the bottom for some pics of TIJ's sweet bike. You can PM him for specific information I'm sure, just click on the profile.

American Sport Bike carries a 3" plastic velocity stack that will fit inside a stock airbox. Paired with a K&N filter and gutted box it should be able to breathe well. If you can stand the big breadbox that is. It may also fit inside the deep race/ham can intake as well, but I'm just guessing there.

Hi Bobberbuell,
I haven't found any specific problem on a over 2 years running the velocity stack on my bike, beside the room for the right leg.
As far as filtration, my velocity is completely free. You can out a mesh, but then where's the point of running that kind of filter?
My opinion is that beside getting a big bug inside your carb, you can't really risk that much with everyday dust.
But then again, my bike is not ridden every day.

Look at your air filter. When you clean your filter element, ask yourself if you're ok with that stuff in your engine.

Here in Florida, where it's always dusty and sand is everywhere on roads (unless it's raining) that's a big no-go.

Ducati has issues with sealing around their ducting and filter in many of their bikes with ram-air. The tech at the local shop always greases all the joints and sealing surfaces when bikes come in for service. The amount of dirt in said ducting, airboxes, and around the throttle bodies is shocking. It does cause an early death; early loss of compression and accelerated wear. On the plus side is that Buells are not a $5-6K top end rebuild.

The dust particles that can be picked up on the road are tough on pistons, cylinders, and rings. If it's a nikasil cylinder that's an expensive fix.

With the OEM Air Box it is possible to run VELOCITY STACK ...

Have you all thought about putting a spacer between the intake manifold and carburetor ???

Are you going for "LOOKS" or performance and if so do you want the performance in the bottom or top end ???
