as usual i flew headfirst into the adjusting of the clutch no manual and gung ho as all get out. all went well till i tried to figure out how to adjust the clutch lever....seemed easy enuf....a few twists of the thingy that sticks out of the primary cover and that shoulda taken up the slack....ha ha ha....not....twinted that little puppy right off leaving threads still inside the cover...can someone please set me straight as to how i should have gone about such a seemingly simple task.....also on another note.....i have a little spring measuring 1/8 aound bye about 1/4 long that was on the floor when i was done .....hmmmm..where did this come from?.....i had also drained and changed the sport trans fluid and am wondering if the spring came from the plug for some wierd reason......laugh and flame me if you must but hey...its all a part of learning.... edited by brotherder on June 15, 2004 | ||

Remove your clutch inspection cover the put the spring back inside the center of the cover, it is probably the one used to hold the locking nut onto the clutchplate shaft. Falls off real easy and bounces around a lot. If you don't know it's there before you remove the cover it's real easy to loose. When you remove the cover, if you find a spring still there, then the spring you found is for something else. A service manual and parts manual will answer many questions.  There is an S1 manual available several places on the internet that a quick search should find for you, many sections are similar to your bike. | ||

Tension is adjusted by the thingy you will see inside the springy when you put it back togegher, and a set of nuts midway on the clutch cable up around the top front of the engine by the frame. The manual gives the full procedure, its a cool self adjusting setup. | ||

thanks....that spring was there still...and thanks also for helping me with the adjustment issue....i ordered the new cable today ....one week of down time...what the hell am i gonna do...and the sun is out...sheesh....what timing |
