I'd really like a set of S3T bags to mount on my S3. I've been watching the classifieds here, but they don't come up very often and I'm usually too slow to snag them. Has anyone tried any aftermarket hard bags or maybe adapted from another bike? Maybe the Uly bags? Fabbing up a mount shouldn't be a problem. I'm just curious if anyone has found something that looks nice, works well and isn't crazy expensive. The price of used S3T bags is hard enough to swallow. | ||

Hard bags are going to expensive no matter how you look at it, unless you mount up some big old ammo cans from your local army navy store. I did bags as cheap as I could on my 1125 and it cost me over $400 and a full day of my own time fabricating. Are you settled on them? The Ventura rack system is a good alternative, asb sells them. | ||

Thanks. I was just hesitant to spend that much on something that is used and unknown condition (and more than likely not color-matched). If I spend that much on something new, I can send it back if it's not right. I wouldn't mind restoring a set of factory bags if I had to, they're just hard to find. | ||

I've gotten this crazy idea to somehow try and fab up Uly bags. I don't know if I'll do them all, but I am surely going to give the top case a go. I've got a Uly top case and rack so far. I plan on modding the rack to fit into my Ventura rack system. For $125, I got a Uly top case, top case rack, and side case racks (I didn't know they were even included until I opened the package when it arrived) that I can try and work with...I haven't even pulled the side racks out of the box. The S3T bags are not designed very well - the inner bags crack at the mount points and the latch mechanism can break preventing you from opening the bags... I've switched to soft saddle and tank bags instead. | ||

I've taken a pair of BMW bags, mid '70 to about'90, found the metal loops used to mount them, welded them to my existing Buell brackets (after removing the lower part). They work perfectly. The turn signals even line up with the reliefs in the saddlebags. Just be sure to have the bottom of the loops out far enough so that the bags don't hit the brake caliper when suspension is compressed. Much better bags and you can still get parts for them. | ||

That looks easy enough, I would prefer the bags if they had a little more flow with the factory lines, but that is a viable alternative. Thanks | ||

I've considered doing a custom mount for some Givi V35s if teh factory bags ever stopped being reliable. | ||

inspired genius, I never would have considered modifying the stock racks, I would have given my self a brain cramp trying to fit guzzi or bmw racks from scratch. Bravo |
