Hi everyone! My name is Chris and I'm a Kettering Ohio resident. I just started riding 2 years ago. Over the weekend I purchased a 00'X1. 16K miles, blue with carbon fiber upgrades. I believe it has the stock exhaust and an aftermarket intake. Bike has the Buell Race ECM. Rode the bike home from the purchase approx. 30 miles. I absolutely love it! I did have a bad leak from the read master cylinder but replaced the crusher washers and it appears to have fixed it, but it is too cold to ride far. I have a tiny oil leak some place I hope to pinpoint. I don't know the first thing about these bikes, I learned on a Blast but that is it. What do I need to know about the Race ECM? Any idea what that brought the HP up to? Also the "v-engine" light came on and off a few times. Bike ran great no hesitation. Sounds and feels like it is going to break apart when it idles but after watching YouTube videos of X1's mine seems exactly the same as everyone else's. Should I revert back to a stock ECM?

dont go back to a stock ecm, you also have the pro series race exhaust and the buell race intake. That ecm works really well with the intake and exhaust you have.

Looks like a nice bike, congrats

Guell: Thanks for the info, I do love the bike and I think I got a pretty strong deal. I didn't realize the exhaust was an upgrade. Any idea on what sort of HP #'s that brings these bikes up to?

The bike also came with a PowerCommanderII, it is in a box with software, and wires. I don't have the slightest idea what to do with it. I would like to just sell it I think?

The PCII will fit in a file 13 quite well.

The PCII is worthless?

Yes, sell it. The race ECM is all you need. That Buell race kit (header and exhaust) is pretty rare, and was designed to be used with the race ECM. The stock ECM will be way too lean.

The race kit didn't significantly increase top end HP, but it flattens out the torque curve significantly.

"The PCII is worthless?"

I think it is. I have one in a box too. Anyone want it?

Since the fuel maps can be altered by the owner with ECM Spy, there's no need for a PC any longer.

Congratulations. Get yourself a copy of the ECMSPY and a cable and read the codes to find out why your "V" light flashing. Here is where you get the software:

And here is where you can get the cable:

My "check engine" light comes on occasionally too, usually after spirited riding followed by a more "sedate" steady speed riding. I've come to the conclusion that it is the ECM (race) "rethinking" the fuel mixture. It will be on for a couple of minutes then turn off.

If the bike is complaining that something is wrong, ask it what the problem is.

Follow these instructions to read the codes without a computer:
http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/marriott/x1/DDFITr oubleCodes/index.htm

I prefer to use a jack knife blade to short the pins.

My most common trouble codes are usually related to sensors being loose.
Oxygen sensor code=check the wire. Mine likes to chafe against the hot pipe. If the pipe is loose, the O2 sensor will have a bad ground and the signal will be noisy to the computer.

Another issue I had was "front fuel injector" That was due to the wire on the injector rubbing through the insulation and grounding every now and then.

You get the point.

If it says "My back aches", check its back.
If it says "my head hurts", check its head.

Right? : )
