Looking at all the brakes they have for sale on American Sport Bike...
Now my question to you guys is, whats a great brake pad replacement?
So any suggestions?? It doesn't have to be from American Sport either.

I have a 02 X1...and i'm replacing both front and back pads.

For the fronts, I've been using the Lyndall Gold+ Racing pads (American Sport Bike #6106) for the last year and have been happy with them. I'm a street rider, not a track rider. I think these are probably the recommended pads for the front. I also upgraded the front rotor to the Ferrodo rotor (American Sport Bike #6056). With these upgrades, the braking feel is much improved over my warped front rotor, since I no longer have the pulsing that plagued the stock setup. I've heard on BadWeb that the Lyndall Gold pads alone can help cure this as well, if you are experiencing it. But that is only, what I've heard.

In the rear, I'm running the Ferrodo Sintered pads (American Sport Bike #5431S). They seem to work ok, but I don't really count on the rear brake for very much braking. They are good enough to lock up the rear if you really step on it, but overall the tuber rear brakes aren't the most powerful.

on a similar note... how come I can only find the early s1 style in organic and no real good race compounds ?

I like EBC HH brake pads but i haven't experimented too much with other brands

I have not found HH type pads for the PM caliper either Fox, so I am using a Nissin from a later tuber.

I see that Al at American Sportbike does Ferodo CP211 race compound and Ferodo Platinum Street compound, however I am not sure how these compare to a HH (or SinterGrip ST)...

The rear Brembo on the S1 can be dressed with Goldfren HH or Ferodo in SinterGrip ST which work well enough for me not to want to swap the caliper over.

Yeah, it stops a lot quicker now, but I think that was more down to pad material than anything else. With the organic crap, you might as well make some pads out of wood...

I think the PM caliper is well cool and would put it back in a flash (as if I was Takin' Care of Business) if I could find some HH type pads...

If you lived closer, you could try it out for yourself...

hmm.... sad, because EBC says that their "organic sintered" pad stops just as good as their HHC.... oh well.

I would highly advise AGAINST Lyndalls - I know, they're all opinions, but they do put a high level of wear on the disk and they're not sintered. Initial feel was good - but after a few thousand miles they started to feel like wood and can't stop anywhere as fast as the DP sintered brakes can.

For commuting use, I highly recommend EBC or SBS organic brakes.

For aggressive riding, I highly recommend DP and EBC sintered. I was able to outbrake R1's and GSXR's with these pads.

It's funny how much brake feel and function seem to vary. I LOVE the Lyndall Golds. While I've not raced the bike with them on I found they performed quite well at the track at my 80-85% riding level.

They cleared up the pulsing I was experiencing and don't seem to develop the squeal that the stock compound pads had.

I've had them on since 2007, and have not ridden the M2 much since getting the XB, but they've worn well and seem to perform best when they are clean.

I have gold pads for the rear but haven't put them on yet. Both calipers will get a rebuild this Spring and I'll see how the rear brakes do after that. (I enjoy better than stock feel, though power isn't much improved with a braided rear line).

I used the Lyndall's Gold on my Uly and will be buying them for the M2. What I like most about them is the digital feel of the brake force. You get lots of tactical and auditory feedback as to your degree of brake force. I have run them on the track. Granted, it was on a Uly, so I'm not hauling it down from 140MPH or anything, but I never felt them fade.

I've ridden with the EBC HH and didn't like the feel at all. There isn't very much feedback. You get an initial bite that is like a brick in the face or nothing. Good luck trying to trail brake with any finesse. I wasn't able to.

If you are going to race where it's all gas or all brake, the EBC HH's are the best. For me for street, the LG's just provided a better feel where brake fade simply wasn't going to be a problem (speeds were at brisk street speeds not race speeds).

Get the Lyndall's and go with the BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
