I just read in the Milwaukee paper that Buell has been released from his non-compete agreement with Harley Davidson and he is going to make a new line of street bikes. Now we can look forward to a bright Buell future. | ||

yes,,They will be based off the 1190 race bike used by pegasus racing in the twins seriers in Europe. In which they dominated and won the series championship. | ||

I don't mean to bring up old battles, but I remember alot of anger over Buell bikes having unfairly large engines or something. Does anyone have a definitive explanation of that? Were people just being stupid and whining? In any case, I'll be looking forward to more Buell street bikes! | ||

Those complaints were while Eslick was embarrassing the Japs in the 2010 AMA Sportbike season. It wasn't "fair" to put 1125cc twins against 600c I4's. What the naysayers failed to mention is how the 1000cc Aprilia twin was mediocre at best all season long. I'm looking forward to the inevitable complaints about AMA Superbike this year. If the Japs think the 1125R was fast, I can only imagine their response to something that weighs 10 lbs less with 35 more horses. | ||

It is rumored that Erik is working with S&S on a motor....for those that follow NHRA drag racing, the 160 S&S motor is a serious can of whoopass. So yes, there is a possibility of a "modern" air cooled lump in the future. The subject of "cheater" bikes just pisses me off...study up on the rules, thermodynamics, and physics...it's a v-twin limited by the laws of physics and materials strenght to a redline of about 11K....the I-4 engines rev to 16-17k or more...do the math on V.E. | ||

I agree with you there Fast. The displacements should not be the issue. If they want to homogenize the machines to some degree, they need to look more at power output. A 1200cc air cooled V-twin is not THAT much more powerful than an inline 600 with liquid cooling. It was the amazing handling that really destroyed the jap bikes  (honestly, I don't know though) The4ork, I think Erik really wanted to go to liquid cooling earlier than he was able. As much as I love air cooled (car and bike, both air cooled) it's not as efficient for racing. | ||

My brother and I have been going to Elkhart Lake (Road America) for about 15 years now and I can remember when the Harleys were running with the Japanese bikes. When the Harleys ran.....they were very competitive, but they were known for engine failures quite often, air cooled.....I remember when the VR1000 started running, they were the most competitive bike that Harley has ever entered into the road racing world. I can still see them with the stump pulling torque pulling away from the Suzuki's out of turn 14......but after about 10 laps or so......no more Harley's...We'd walk over o the pit area and there both of them would be. We were told the bike kept falling apart, that the design couldn't handle the 'New' power. The next year.....Harleys gone from road racing but.....out comes the 'VR'od.....(vr1000 race bike) My point? Liquid is the way to go when competing in these classes. Evident by Eric Buell when he got the most serious he's ever been about racing.........Rotax reliability and longevity.....kind of like the Porsch/Harley venture VR1000.......air cooled just doesn't have the stamina. jmo | ||

it wasnt the XBRR that raced against the 600s, it was the 1125R. And 1200cc aircooled Buell motor makes a good bit LESS power than current 600 I4s, about 30hp less pkforbes - false. the AMA superbike class is 1000cc I4s and up to 1200cc twins, the 1198 currently competes in it. And the new bike wont be in the same class that youre referring to (daytona sportbike) with being 'ten pounds less and 35 more hp' It'll be pretty evently matched up this season, I think we'll finally see a Buell on the podium in American Sport Bike | ||

They allow a 1200cc limit for twins in Superbike..Yes? I'm grateful for the limit as it allows the beloved 1198r to race the series. Having TWICE the displacement though (as in an 1125 against a 600)is a bit much.I don't mean to belabor THAT point tho | ||

Ohhh, yummy! For a race bike to be able to compete in AMA or WSB it NEEDS to be water cooled. But you'll note that in terms of reliability, it's hard to beat air cooled engines... and race bikes need only last a weekend. | ||

Probably runs circles around them, but still.... I like my S2... |
