I have this extra threaded hole in my rear head, and I don't know what it is. It was there when I bought the bike, and it runs fine despite it, but I'd like to know what is supposed to be there. I've looked through the service manual, and I can't find any reference to it, and it doesn't show up in the pictures. Can anyone on here enlighten me?

Its for the head temp sensor used on the fuel injected models X1 and S3.

'01-'02 they were relocated to the center(down the chimney) of the head.

Alright, thanks for the help.

Now, since I somehow have X1 heads on my M2, does that change any of the parts I need to use, and would that affect power output?

Your M2 engine is the same as the X1-S3 other then being carb'd and milder cams.

Alright. I guess this will make installing a head temp sensor pretty easy now.
