PM wheels were optional, IMO the white cast wheels look 'right' on the Liberace bikes.. guess i'm a lil biased

By the way . . that one is Seattle looks like a really good deal. I'd sell the race can for $750, the rest of the spares and have myself a whooping $3,000 bike.

I know it is only a matter of time before I cave in and get myself an S1.
Just need to plan ahead a little bit so I can pull the "beg for forgiveness" stunt when time comes...

If she complains about it just offer to buy another bike that you can both ride on. When I was still with her, mine tried to go for a ride on my S1 the day I brought it home with clip ons. It only took her about 6 miles to realize that it was a bad idea. 7 weeks and 2 days later I went shopping for my Road King at her request. It was a sacrifice but I rose the the occasion

Yep. That's the pro series. Take it off, there should be a sticker underneath that says "euro seat".

The accessory seat with the pegasus logo was the SELECT seat in tuber days. And the standard solo tail seat for an S1/S1W had a passenger grab strap. Why...I have no idea...but it was there.

I **thought** the strap was required but I just thumbed through the FMVSS and can't find it anywhere.

The seat strap is not a FMVSS required item. There is a requirement that if there is one that it must be able to support the weight of the entire vehicle, meaning you can pick up the whole bike by the seat strap. I can't remember is if was a FMVSS requirement or a H-D GES requirement.

Some memories are a little less vibrant,

All I know is, for Maryland state inspection if a bike has passenger footpegs and a passeng
er seat, it must have either a grab strap OR a backrest for the passenger - so they don't have to grab the driver to hold on. I can only suspect that is an outgrowth of the FMVSS rules.

Hence my confusion.

A solo S1 seat barely has room for ONE person...where's the second supposed to go? : )

"it must be able to support the weight of the entire vehicle"

I've never tried it but I'd be pleasantly surprised if the strap on an X1 seat and/or the seat lock mechanism could handle ~440 lbs. That would be a great way to hang the rear of the bike from a rafter.

>>>>...where's the second supposed to go?

On a pillow duct taped to the tail section. . . . remind me to tell you, whence next we meet . . about the young lady and her marginally qualified rider boyfriend who parted company with the paved road, at considerable speed, went airborne . . through a quaint white picket fence and came to rest on the front porch of a bungalow.

That was at the 2nd 1st Annual Buell Owners gathering in Arkansas.

I'm not sure I'd suspend my S1 from the strap . . . but then, trust me on this one . . you don't want to subject your bike to many of the things we used to do to them in testing.

Sometime, if you cross paths with Tom Anglim at the factory, he can tell you some of the wonderful things he used to get to do to bikes. It's the reason it's easy to say, with confidence, you'll NEVER subject your bike to anything approaching what it saw in testing.

On the other hand . . sometimes we missed the obvious. Remind me to tell you the story of the Blast pulley . . .

You can thank Engineers like 1313 for some of the bizarre test protocols the tubers were put through.

We miss our mini-van with the door removed.

: )
