A friend of mine has a 1996 S1 Lightning and the fuel tank which is plastic has started to go soft on top and the paint and decals are bubbling does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem? Its as if the vapours from the fuel are effecting the paintwork and decals.}

There are MANY threads about bubbling paint.

Repainting the tank with proper paints and methods is the fix.

The "softening" of the tank concerns me though. I've not heard of that happening.

Not read about all the bubbling tanks as I'm new here, but the reason it happens is the paint reacts to the adhesive on the stickers. If you lacquer the tank after painting, and then apply the stickers it doesn't happen.

I agree with everything that's been said.....but make sure your vent is working BOTH ways. If not that tank is going to expand and dislodge the paint from the tank and your gonna get large bubbles.
