I wasn't to sure where to post this so I opted to try this group of threads. I'm looking for a place to get my 99 S3 serviced on Long Island, NY. I only see two previous Buell Dealerships that are still listed - NYC & Riverhead but know nothing of either one. If anyone has any comments on them or possibly another shop I can bring it to that would be trustworthy to do the right job I would appreciate any input.

Can you make it across Staten Island over to NJ TP exit 12 @ Rahway?

There are two ways to know the services were performed properly. Do them yourself, or do them yourself after the dealership messes it up.

Actually though, you could just double check their work. If they did it all right, then you can bring it back to them in the future.

I would trust the opinion anyone on here gives you as far as who to bring it to.

That's kind of what I do. It's an old habit but the moment I get a bike home from service I park it, get out the milk crate to sit on and the torque wrenches. . . I got through every connection anywhere near the source of the work that was done.

EXAMPLE: I had the "Rider Comfort Kit" installed. It required unbolting the frame that supports the rear tail bag on the Ulysses. The two bolts into the bottom of the tail section were removed and the rack was rotated down.

The bolts, on reassembly, had been properly installed but no attention was given to the bolts into the side of the rear footpeg mounts that the rotating process moved. Lowering the rack had the effect of tightening the left side bolt and loosening the right side . . . I found the right side only finger tight. No one had touched it so they simply didn't think about it.

It's never a bad idea to periodically lay on the ground next to the bike and look at everything.

I'd also touch base with Mike R . . he has 5 Buells on Long Island and has spent lots of time shuttling to and from dealers the last year.

Don,
Both of the dealers you posted are Buell dealers but don't have a Buell tech on staff the last time I asked them to do warranty work on my (3) 09's. I know Jamiec had some work done at the NYC shop in Long Island City, Queens. I have been dealing with NewRoc HD in New Rochelle for the past year with my (3) 09's for the warranty work. They at least have a buell tech.
What do you need done? What town are you located in? There is a good shop here in Huntington that works on my HD. I will be using him for any work on my 97 S1 if I need it.
email me at mjrphoto at optonline dot net for the shop info in Huntington. I am going to stop by the shop today to see if he will work on the tubers.

Don,
Also, the Riverhead shop had a nice collection of new tubers in the shop the last time I was there. Not sure if they still have them out.

You know . . . in some ways . . . it might be cool to "make" our own shop. I have every Buell manual ever published, I'm sure between some of us that we have some of the specialized tools, I have spare belts, frame pucks, wheels and cases of stuff unique to tubers that can't be purchased anymore.

Now that so few of the dealers have Buell trained personnel, nor have any interest in dealing with Buell . . .it may be cool to make a deal with a dealer and form sort of a consortium . . . . look we want it done right, are willing to pay fair price and don't want/need any bullshit lines.

There are (judging from the 2 Ulys that park next to each other every day here in the East Village) a significant number of Buells quietly existing in and about NYC. I'd even be willing, depending on how we structured it, to provide some "pick up and deliver to dealer" (this will make no sense to folks in other parts of the country but less than 50% of the people in NYC don't own cars) . . if it would help.

Just thinkin' out loud. . ..

Sign me up.

A long wheelbase Sprinter hi-top van stocked with tools on one side and books on the other...I'd be good to go.

Regional setups - Northeast, Southeast, Great Lakes, etc. A van or two in each region, fully stocked with tools and lit, a BYO parts agreement ("I'll come to you and your bike, but have the parts waiting for me") and some sort of pipeline to stocking stores for disassemble/diagnose/"Ineeda" parts...

Thanks for the info - Court, I like your idea as well. I'm certainly not a trained mechanic but can wiggle my way through most of the issues I need to deal with. For me the big one would be anything relating to computerized connections/trouble shooting since I have no means of doing it.

Two dealers I have visited in the past that have been great with Buells are still on the map - Rahway & Danbury. Though each are about 1hr+ of a ride, having a trained tech work on my bike is worth the travel.

If I had to have work done now . . it would be one of those two. My "perfect storm" would be to con Chris (Moose) into doing the work himself. He's very knowledgeable and meticulous.

"Riverhead shop had a nice collection of new tubers in the shop"

They had a brand new gray/orange M2 for sale a couple of months back. IIRC the asking price was ~$6K. Not sure if they still have it.
