I had to ride home last night in 23 degree weather with a 8 degree wind chill only wearing my jacket and summer gloves cuz thats all I have. its 27 out and i still gotta ride to school

I can see why all you guys not living in the south west put your bikes up for the winter.

Lots of really good posts here in badweb (KV section, apparel and stuff), about good cold weather gear. If you mothball your bike for the winter, you lose out on some really nice winter riding days.

the weather is crazy isn't it. Every night on the 6 o'clock news the weather is mentioned. Get some thin glove liners. Hug your bike at the traffic stops. cover your neck and chin up.
In Maryland the weather guys says we are in a weather pattern; cold for a couple of days then snow sleet or freezing rain for the rest of Feb.

I live in Colorado and I have never put my bike away for winter! We always seem to get a few good days a month to ride! Not lately though! It was -24 at my house two nights ago!

Hahah! Where are you? I'm in Albuquerque, NM and this morning I rode to class at about 8 degrees! I need some warm gloves...

That FI is pretty neat though, it was so cold the ignition had frozen and yet the bike started right up.

fox, i don't see you posting too much on the New mexico thread in storm fronts.
I'm in 'querque also.
if your bike is your only transpo, and you need warm gear, I can loan you some.
I'm wussing out and driving my truck to work and back, and only use my electric gear when riding to Phoenix and back.
FYI, I just saw a complete set of electric gear on craigslist, vest, gloves, and leggings for $100, thats a smoking deal...

A Brit I used to know taught me -

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment."

He was SAS. He knew what he was talking about when it came to "equipment". Of any sort.

I ride with heated gloves, grips, and jacket when the weather requires. If its in the 20s or below, I wear a base layer, jeans, and armored outerpants. 40s to 30s, I lose the base layer (the boys like to breathe).

The tech is there. Make use of it. It is worth every single penny. I currently own a 95 S2, a 98 S1W, an 01 M2L, an 06 Uly, and an 09 CR. Farkles and mods all over the place and if I ever added up what I've spent...I'd likely want to shoot myself. But hands down, the best money I've EVER spent...is the heated gear.

on the heated gear. At least get the jacket liner and gloves. I have the heated vest and using the cords is a hassle.

I didn't notice the NM thread... I should head over there later.

I have everything I need aside from some nice gloves. My bike isn't my only transportation, but my '70 beetle has been really bitchy about the cold lately. Thanks for the offer though!

Start with a pair of heated gloves, they will extend your riding season until the roads get sloppy. Upgrade the rest of your gear as your budget allows. When you're not thinking about how cold you are, your mind is on defensive riding where it should be.
I tried to ride back to my trailer to think about getting ready for Daytona. Looks like I'll be paying to have a road plowed to it again this year.

I prefer riding in the cold to riding in the heat. The same gear that makes me comfortable in 20* temps makes me safe. Come summertime with it's 100* temps, however, and I am forced to choose between comfortable and safe.

"..do you actually ride on ice? that sounds crazy lol..."

Are you kidding? Here in Jersey I would be lucky to make to the end of my driveway without landing on my ass....

Don't ride on ice any more. The older I got the harder the ground is. But I used to have a honda 350 with studs and rode it all winter. I've looked at getting something similar and might in the future, but the ground sure is hard when it is frozen.

I like how even when i don't ask a question on this forum i get answers. I'll prolly be investing in gloves next winter as this winter is dyeing down.
