just out of curiosity is it possible to (or has any one ever) modified an S1 gas tank to work with the fuel pump on an X1? | ||

lol really? cuz I don't think it would be so hard and I'd like a thinner tank than the manta I have. but i also havent looked at an S1 tank to see. I'm also hesitant to drop the money on one to just look at it. and they are metal correct? its a little easier for me to modify or correct if so. | ||

as far as I know the slimmer s1 tanks you are talking about are plastic as well... it would be easier to drop a fuel pump in it if it was metal. However the manta tank rocks... if you ask me, you cant beat driving from orlando to jacksonville, and then back again without filling up. | ||

lol ya thing most of my long trips are around then 200 miles round trip. so its not an issue for me. I just don't like how the manta sticks over the frame so far. I'd be done for purely asthetic reasons. and it wouldn't hurt to have a little more room to turn with my clipons | ||

Slim tank won't get you 200 miles, not on my M2 anyway. Found that out the hard way. Don't know what kind of mileage the X1s get though. I get about 150 and I'm heavy on throttle. | ||

I can usually go around 220 before putting gas in the X1, that's even before the light goes on. I was averaging between 50 and 55 mpg so you figure the X1 tank is what 4.1 or 4.4 gals. I can't remember, it's easily attainable. | ||

The S1's are plastic. Their paint will peel. The X1 solved this with the cover. | ||

I believe the X1 tank is 4.8 US Gallons. I usually run mine to c150 miles before fill-up. I get approximately 50-55 MPG unless I thrash it! I have stretched to 200 miles on occasion & I haven't had the low fuel light come on. I had a '99 tank cover/shroud on mine. I pulled it & sprayed black paint under the "nostrils" to make it look consistent with the black tank cover/shroud. Chris C | ||

I'm saying the miles just as a fact that i don't mind filling up. i fill up every hundred miles any way just in case. so fuel capacity isn't my issue here. paint bubble is a problem though. but I'm still curious if any one has tried it before? | ||

if you are wanting to put a manta style tank, you could use a late model S3 tank? it is already is set up for FI! unless you really want the skinny tank??? | ||

How about an inline pump? Plenty made for aftermarket cage EFI. | ||

An aftermarket pump is unlikely to work. The X1/S3 pump does not rely on an external fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail and the requisite return fuel line. The pump at the link above has no regulator. You'd have to install an external regulator near the injectors and a fuel return line to the tank. Also, since they're designed for cars, their flow rates are quite high, and they are quite large. I wouldn't want one strapped to my bike, with fuel lines running all over the place. | ||

good info hootowl, i wouldn't want to do that any way but thanks for the idea Dave. I'm really more curious as to if any one has tried it. If i had a tank i could look at it and see if it was possible but i don't and I'm planning on getting one for a long time if i do. | ||

Dave, It wouldn't matter what aftermarket automotive inline fuel pump you found or how long you spent looking for one. An inline pump would only work if you added a regulator and a return line. | ||

How about a carb conversion and the tank? The front mount looks like it'd work, and it looks pretty easy to make an adapter for the rear. Or, as others have said, adapt the S3 tank with said rear adapter plate. The painted tuber tanks only bubbled under the decals on those that had the decals cleared over. | ||

You know, I have a spare fuel pressure regulator for an X1. I bought a new one because I thought the old one failed. More likely, the old one's mounting seals failed. (They were hard as plastic and crumbled when poked) Just throwing that out there. Anyone who needs it can have it. | ||

I was thinking of the easiest/ cheapest way to do it and keep the efi system. If i was going to do a carb conversion I feel like a might as well buy an S1 but i don't quiet have the funds for that but I'd love for my X1 to have some company  lol | ||

Yes you can make the s1 tank fuel injected i did it I just made an aluminum block off plate for the petcock and mounted the x1 pump inside the tank yes I did have to drill holes in the bottom of the tank but it works everything is sealed | ||
