To use a xb swingarm you have to modify the passenger footpeg brackets

Joe was kind enough to post a detailed description of his excellent work to upgrade his Buell S1 with an XB swingarm and ZTL front-end too. One of the best threads in Old School. : )

That isn't even the main thread for Joe's effort. Here's his complete Buell S3 to S1 to S1-XB thread.

Yes I know of Joes buell its a very nice build and no my spacers are different they are less complicated with these spacers it bolts right in they are machined to accept the factory isolators and the rod that bolts threw the swingarm I will be posting pics today

Tim,

Every time I see it I start thinking about revising the tuber frame to optimally match the newer, much improved rear isolator arrangement, and to optimally support the rear shock mount. Then I think that it would make sense to just use an entire new 2010 XB engine/transmission assembly, just modified to work with tuber mounts. Then I think, nah, go with the XBRR engine & powertrain.

If H-D had any sense, they'd do all that and call it the "H-D Sport". They won't. They're idiots.

So then I wonder what it would take to get such a machine into production.

Wanna help? joker

David,

An S1 tank? What did you do for fuel pump? Convert to carburetor?

XB swingarm: What did you do for rear shock mount?

How are your spacers simpler than Jodie's?

Did his swingarm not just bolt right in too?

Blah... But its such a hideous swingarm..

Just like all XB stuff, it looks like it was casted in a toy factory.

Here are some pics still working on upper shock mount would like to make it bolt on also but still working on that as for the spacers my spacers are one piece design joes are two piece he machined a piece that has to be pressed into the swingarm to hold the bearings and used stock spacers and nothing is wrong with his design I just made it easier

I'm with Foximus. XB stuff looks and works good on XB's, but there's seemingly very little to gain doing these front and rear end swaps on tubers. The geometry is better beforehand. It also ruins their new-classic-like looks. But, to each their own.

I'll chime in here David my spacers are in fact one piece, there machined from a single billet of alloy. My design also makes bearing replacement and adjustment as per the original and use OEM bearings not the XB's bearings.......Which will be unobtainable in the near future! ; ) lol

Thanks Jodie. I appreciate all the documentation and work you did, never once looking to sell anything.

David,

I'm less than impressed with your thread here due to the inaccuracy in information (see Jodie's correction above), and the apparent intent to sell stuff. On BadWeB, that privilege is reserved for the sponsors who fund the ongoing operation and maintenance of the place.

But back to your build... I'm still wondering about the use of an S1 fuel tank with a fuel-injected X1 engine. How you working that?

I think the XB swingarm, by eliminating the under-seat oil tank and moving the rear shock up to conventional location is a winner all around.

I sure don't appreciate the snarky comments. You don't like it, fine. Move one then.

finally, someone else who likes the boxed steel swingarm! I am going to have mine braced, kinda like what rick_a did, but i dont want mine extended. They look good that way and arnt the typical cast aluminum upgrade.

By no means did I am aim to bag anybody I like your build joe and thats where I got the idea and as far as doing all this work I just like the looks of the swingarm on these bikes thats what I like and as far as the spacers on joes bike they look and perform awesome I am sure I was just stating that yours is a two piece design you made a housing for the s1 bearing to be pressed into the xb swingarm and then have the spacer on top of that so thats where I got the two piece from so joe youre bike is awesome and I am just have fun building my buell I just wanted to see if there was anyone else who liked these kinda swaps and if you dont to each there own

David you've still got my design wrong bud, theres no spacer so don't know where you got that idea from....
My design removes the XB bearings and alloy spacer(you may be referring to) the adapters press into where the XB's bearings were then you use new tube frame swing arm bearings and seals which are the same as the steering head bearings. Which makes it a synch to buy replacement parts, so if I ever sold it, old mate who buys it isn't scratching his wondering why he can't get his bearings to fit.
