Owner said it is from an s1 slim gas tank

is this the same thing?

I believe (pretty sure) the S1 and early M2 shared the same slim tank, someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I can't view ebay from work or I could give you a better answer.

Not the same tank.... however I have no idea what either is.

All I know is my 97 s1 has the 5.5 gallon manta tank. But I do love that tail.

LittleB is correct - 96/97/98 S1 (NOT S1W) and M2 both have the narrow tank. Same as what's shown above. Anything after '99 is going to be a larger, "manta" tank like the S1W had in '98.

The ebay auction is NOT the same as the photos. The auction is for an X1 tank - larger, supposed to have a cosmetic cover on it, and fuel injected. Look for 96/97 S1, or 97/98 M2. Period. (I'd say look for 98 S1, but most folks don't list them with the difference between S1 and S1W in mind).

And Foximus - if your 97 has the Manta...somebody added it. Yours was built with the tank shown in the photos above.

Odd.... but fair enough.

I almost like the slim tank for the cafe look... but the new swing arm and that style of exhaust headers kills the cafe motion.

The swingarm is because the bike in the photos appears to be an X1. The bolt-on tail section is a giveaway.

I think the swingarm looks okay, polishing it up might make it go with the bike's styling a bit more. An early tubular, or braced tubular type swing arm like Rick_a has would look killer.

I actually thought it was an M2 at first, lugs could be welded on, but a close look at the first pic also shows the side plate for belt and iso changes...

Yeah the tail is probably the only tail I could find anywhere that I liked for my Cyclone. The owner said he had it custom made from a place out of France. Anyone know of anyplace here in the states that could fab up something like that?

Also anyone have a slim style tank they would sell?

'96, '97 and '98 S1 had the small "peanut" tank like the bike on the picture, '98 S1 WL and M2 have the large Manta tank.
I have the peanut tank on my WL though, I like it better...

I'd still like to see a s1 that has a cafe setup like that, and has been fitted with some basketweave spoke rims.

And yes, car enthusiast. IF you really wanted I could make you something like that. I had offered a few guys to make a replica of the s1 tail in carbon as well...

the tail section looks amazing, but I like to think that the oil cap has a thread, cause if it's a pressure one like the stock, I wouldn't want to drive that thing, if I don't wanna find the cap between my buttchicks!

I'd make it out of fiberglass. If i was going to make one... (and not more) it would probably run around $200.

Do you do this kind of work professionally or just a hobby?

Do you have any thing you have completed already that I can take a look at?

Profesionally as a hobby.

I build all my own jetski hulls that I race during the summer.

I have a few shots, but i really dont have anything completed and finished in a picture as I never really sold things online. Only did things as a personal basis.

Airtech has a lot of vintage fiberglass bodywork, as well as Buell replacement stuff. I was really close to putting a TZ750 "duck tail" seat on my S1 at one point, but I decided it was too wide and there isn't much room to move around on it fore-aft.

American Sportbike still sells CF Buell tail sections.

Off topic a bit, but one of the best applications of vintage tails on modern bikes are the Rad Duc builds.

Nice work Fox. You're quite talented. What's the motor in that bike? Triumph parallel twin?

Oh bah humbug to sponsors, and I haven't tried to sell anything. I just mentioned that I have the ability to make fiberglass tails. I just graduated college and I race jetski's during the summer. Stealing business from sponsors is the last of my concerns. Dont be a buzz kill.
