I think you will find that a 45 is too much carb for this motor. You should try a 42

I have ported XB heads, XB9 Pistons, N6 cams,HI4, race header, should I consider the 42 with this setup better? Still for future reasons I would like to know where to get it.

I have 9 pistons and XB heads and run stock CV. Will be installing a CV44 someday is why I mentioned it. Was recommended by the guys who built my motor...one of which knows a wee bit how to build these..

Deanh8 I am looking at the Mikuni carb home page and sitting next to the HSR 48 is an adapter to bolt onto a two hole flange clamp.

Looking at other pictures it looks like the outside dimension of the Mikuni carbs HSR 42, 45 and 48 appear to be the same.

I am guessing but the flange bolt pattern would most likely be one of three sizes
1. 80's vintage Keihin butterfly carb same as S&S B.
2. S&S E or G
3. S&S D

S&S makes manifolds to fit any motor stroke length in each bolt pattern size. It will be hard to discern the correct size from the internet seems like something is always missing. Go to either a dealer or aftermarket shop that is into racing of any type. They will be able to help. If they don't have an answer that makes sense go to the next shop.

If you find out you have too much carb for your current configuration all in not lost. You will simply need bigger cams. Remember all things are better with bigger cams.

Jim Higgins who goes under the name on here as Firmanjim is just up the road from you at Sears Point (Infenion raceway Sp) he should be able to help.

Dean, all you need will be the 42, ran one on both my 88" bike and my 1250 with excellent results. But IIRC you can get S/E manifold for the CV 44 that will work. And I have one sitting here you can try out.

Jim,

If you need to get rid of that SE CV44 manifold I am searching for one. Let me know!

I'm running a 45 on my ported 1250 kit S1 with cam. It works fine, and I'm getting better than 45mpg in town. The downsides are that large jets have to be used due to the weaker signal, it's a bit of a pain to tune, and if the throttle is opened too abruptly from moderate revs the engine can stumble momentarily. It's also soft and very CV-like in hot weather. For track use it's ideal. The 42mm was too responsive for my tastes in this application. This thing was either spinning the rear tire or wheelying with little provocation at low throttle openings. It's fun, but gets old when you really don't want to.

Anyway, the CV44 big bore manifold works. I'm using one of those PowerNow venturi splitters. Supposedly it strengthens the low RPM signal, but I haven't taken it out to see of it runs any different.

I'm very tempted to try the CV44.

I have a 48mm psi carb on my 90. It is bolted up to a ported Super D manifold. At some point the manifold becomes the choke point. The super D manifold will handle more air than the 45mm Mikuni style manifold or the, but is probably over kill for most applications.
