I'm looking for the stock part # for the fairing mount for a '98 S3. I just bought one from a gentleman on badweb and it appears it's not the correct part. The instrumentation cluster connectors are shorter than the one I took off...

Believe you are in need of this "INFO" out of a 1999 S3/S3T PARTS BOOK ...

FRONT FAIRING MOUNT ASM. PN 58710-98YA

If the parts person runs this Harley-Davidson type part number they will get back the NEW BUELLschitte PART NUMBER ...

If you'll do not have a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your YEAR/MODEL, you should get them before the}y go "OUT OF PRINT" !!!

I've never set them side by side, but I'd be surprised to find that there are any differences. You seem to be asking about one thing and have issues with something different. Is the problem your dash wiring won't reach the main harness? Are you changing the dash as well as the mount? Feel free to PM me if you want to get into more details.

Thanks for the help gentlemen. The part number I thought it was is L0005.B, so I can't fault the seller of the part I purchased. Pictures would have helped, and that would have certainly made the buying process simpler...I wouldn't have. I'll see if I can post pics of the two to help show my issue. Easy_rider, I'd be happy to call you to discuss, if you don't mind. Thanks again, and happy holidays everyone.

I did a Google search to see what that part number was. Assuming the link that led me back to the Badweb was for the part you've got I'd say you got the right part for a steal. Perhaps you haven't routed the wires the same. Here's a pic of one I had easily accessible. The angle is a little odd, but you can see the gauge wires come out of the top hole of the mount. This is from a newer EFI bike, and I don't remember how the speedo cable runs for your year but hopefully this will still help. You can see the headlight connector through the bottom hole.

Still feel free to call me if you want. I sent my number in a PM earlier.

Looks like I'm getting to the bottom of this. There appear to be different parts for fairing mounts for a '97 and '98 S3. I've got a new '97 mount (L0005.B) and needed the '98 (58710-98Y). Since I have the '97 mount, I think I can change to the '97 dash panel (M0660.B) and life will be good. Anyone have a pic of this part? Did the '97s have a clock, it looks like they might not have...thanks again for all the great help.

Early 97 looked just like the S2

Careful.... The '97 did not have a clock and the dash looked similar to the S2 but I'm fairly certain that S3 dashes all mount the same. It looks as if your wiring harness is passing through the same hole as the headlight wiring. Run your harness through the upper hole and see how it changes.
The differences you're seeing in part numbers is due to a change in the Harley numbering system from what you see in the manual to what Lafayette affectionately terms the "BUELLschitte" number.
Oh yeah, make sure you don't cross the brake harness and clutch sensor lines. They have the same mating connector and in dim light you may not see the differences in the wiring colors.
