Well, I figured out what the clanking was in the muffler...the center perforated core came apart, and with no packing in there whatsoever...well, there wasn't much left. Best I can tell, the core is 12.25" long? I'm going to rebuild it using...what...a roll of chicken wire held with wire wraps? And chances are it'll get repacked with stainless steel wool...any other suggestions? Best rivets to use? I finally have my garage back - the Dodge is built and running and out of the way - so next on the list is putting the race exhaust on the M2L And probably once I'm done with it, the S1W's race muffler will get the same rebuild treatment... |

If it were me, I'd core it with OEM or something close to it. Chicken wire with thin wire wrap won't last long in that environment. BTW, great riding out your way. Took the 1125r out to PA this past August and rode through your town. |

skip the steel wool and get the repack kit from American Sport Bike. |

+1 on not using steel wool. You'll want proper exhaust packing. You should be able to get it from any motorcycle shop. The stuff I bought was fiberglass packing for dirt bikes. Installation is really simple. Wrap it around the tube as tight as you can then then wrap that with a piece of wire or string to get it into the can. I found that I had to go else where to get the core tube. I couldn't find an OEM kit for the Buell race can. If you'd like I can give you the name of the place... It took some digging to find a place that would sell such a small amount of that stuff. I got a perforated SS tube and cut it to length myself. I ended up using some aluminum rivets that I bought at a hardware store to put the can back together again. So far no issues. |

Get a pipe of the right diameter and start drilling holes! Stainless will be tough on your tools though so you'll need top quality. I use aluminum rivets from the local hardware store. Packing - I use dirt bike packing (FMF, Moose, etc) and it works great. Far outlasts OEM! Then again, so would toilet paper |

Get a pipe of the right diameter and start drilling holes! Hmmm...without a drill press, that sounds less than fun LOL. I guess I can just dig around a bit, see what the local places have in stock material wise. |
