I should have thought of this before I got an intake off of fleabay. The intake I got has a part number of 27400-89. Not sure what it fits but I know one thing it doesn't fit is thunderstorm heads. These parts are going on an S3 so I don't have a parts manual for an M2. I think the part number I need is 27400-88A can somebody with a parts manual verify this for me. Thanks | ||

Why does it not fit? Pretty much any Tuber/Sportster/Evolution intake will work. | ||

The carbed intake on a M2 is (27004-88A) and please note this is for the intake kit which includes the 2+1 seals. Weird I cannot find just the intake part number itself in the 2 parts books I have. | ||

Every stock Sportster manifold will fit between the Thunderstorm heads (at least if the heads have not been massively decked or cylinder length has been altered) BUT: the Buell manifolds have a height offset compared to the Sportster manifolds to position the carb higher (I think) to get clearance between carb and frame. I don't think the heads I have, have ever been decked or milled, etc The intake I have looks like it isn't wide enough. I can get it in there and clamped down but it looks like it is going to suck air, this either is a questionable design or I have something wrong. There is a pretty good gap between the retaining ring and the lip on the intake. I'll fiddle with it some more and keep an eye out for a M2 intake. Could be I got a modified intake unknowingly. | ||

No height offset. The manifold is a standard Sportster part. The part # is a Harley part # and ends in 88 (88A in this case), which means the casting was first used in '88. '88 was the 3rd year of the Evo Sportster, but the first year to use headbolt breathers and a carb support bracket, rather than having the carb bolted directly to the intake, which is how the '86/'87 Evo sportster carbs were mounted. | ||

You probably bought an ironhead intake manifold. They are much narrower. Any pics? | ||

No pics sorry my camera has died. Anyway I don't think it is an ironhead manifold. I wiggled it around and got it to fit, it does sit a skoosh lower than the S3 intake. I got all winter to dial it in. | ||

S3 intake was a different casting because it was EFI, no? | ||

Phelan, your right the carb side of the intake is bigger and the whole intake has more of a hump to it. I'll get it to work eventually. | ||

FYI,I have a 99 M2 stock intake in my hand and the PN is 27004-89. | ||
