The ForceWinder air filter cracked on my X1, and I found this on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item= 110542018195&category=35574&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619# ht_881wt_905 It's being advertised as a V-Rod ForceWinder filter, does anyone know if it's the same filter as the Buell one? It says it has a 2 1/2" opening and stands 6 3/8" tall. Thanks in advance. | ||

It will only work for an X1 if it has the hole for the air temp sensor. I have a second hole in my elbow so i can run either kind of filter. | ||

I had 2 holes in my original filter, I used one for the air temp sensor and plugged the other one since I am running the crank breather to the ground. If the dimensions are the same, I can plug or make holes, no problems. I'll measure the one I have to see if the dimensions are the same I guess. | ||

off topic - im not sure how those would even fit a VRod, its much like the XB/1125 bikes - the 'tank' is the airbox, i've seen inside of destroyers and standard street vrods - they dont have an area where a pipe would go to connect a filter like this. | ||

That is true, the V-Rod intake has 2 velocity stacks located inside the gas tank/airbox. I looked at the Force website and they don't have a ForceWinder intake for the V-Rod. The seller probably just threw the name for recognition. I measured the one I have and it seems like a perfect match, at that price, I'll be drilling or plugging holes to make it fit. | ||

I have personal experience with this seller. I started the econowinder mod and ordered the proper K&N filter through a local dealer, who botched the order and I rec'd the wrong filter two days before I was supposed to go on a two day motorcycle trip. I found a filter on Ebay through Dartsparts, emailed the seller to see if they could expedite shipping and they emailed me back within minutes. My filter arrived on a Saturday via USPS just before I was set to leave and was plug and play. Been riding with it for three months now and love it. I have the air sensor hole in my elbow, as well, so the hole in the filter wasn't as issue. X1 rider is right - for the price of one plus shipping you can get five - it's a hard deal to pass up. I recommend this seller highly and he has feedback to prove it. Hope this helps. | ||

Are these filters made in China? (Not that there's anything wrong with that...) They seem like K&N knockoffs, just wondering if the country of origin is visible on the filter. | ||

Can you tell us if there's an area near the 2 1/2" hole that looks like it's intended to be drilled out? I have one like that - molded without the hole but clearly reinforced in the area that the hole would be drilled. TIA | ||

I just, last night, ordered a new filter for my Forcewinder from K&N's website. Using information from BadWeb, I found that the K&N part number is RC-3680. I also bought a new dry sock for the filter (RC-3680DK). All considered, including tax, I paid $65.92. Double checking the numbers shown on K&N's site it sure seems like RC-3680 was the right one for my replacement... double check yours. Considering what the Ebay'er is asking for shipping, I think you'd be better off buying from K&N. The filter by itself was $37.99 plus tax (shipping is free if you choose ground method). It of course does not have any additional holes drilled in it, but you could always add your own. I've had to do that on other K&N filters to add an IAT sensor on my Turbo Buicks... | ||

The $45.00 price however is for 5 filters, which is a good deal at less than 10 bucks per filter. Five of these should last a lifetime, I would think. | ||

Here's one I picked up cheap a few years ago. It has obvious areas where the hole can be drilled for an IAT, but they're plugged so it would work with a carb. What do the new ones look like?  | ||

Keep in mind, these are NOT K&N filters. So apples to apples they are not! I'm not sure if they are a good deal or not- many of the chinese filters are only $5-10 each. | ||

X1_rider... I'll let you know for sure if the RC-3680 filter has the preformed holes once it arrives. According to UPS it should be here on Monday. | ||

X1_rider, the RC-3680 does NOT have the preformed holes. The hole used to attach the filter to the Forcewinder is centered in the filter. The RC-3680 is the same filter that came with the Forcewinders for the carbureted Buells. Perfect for my M2, but probably not the ideal choice for an X1 or S3. | ||

I received my eBay filters. They are NOT designed to go with the ForceWinder intake. The flange is centered and there is no re-enforced spots to drill for the IAT sensor. I will try to drill anyway and use a grommet for the IAT sensor. Crap, now I wish I didn't order 5 of those. | ||

IMO, no need for anything to be reinforced. Drill a small hole and stab er in there!  | ||

You may want to try what a few of us did by routing the IAT to a spot near/behind the flyscreen. The existing wiring is long enough to move it to a spot near the ECM connector. |
