Does anyone know if I can trade out my S2 rear caliper for the caliper off of a '99 S3? I know the carriers are different, can I do it if I change carriers also? The S2 is parts# 44087-98Y caliper with 44089-94YA carrier. The S3 is 44087-98Y and that includes the carrier. Shane | ||

Here is all I have been able to gather using a number of different searches. This one was from Firemanjim Posted on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 02:32 "As all my experience is with S-2's I am ignorant when it comes to later tuber stuff. Will the later style rear caliper/mount retro to an early tuber and vice versa? Nissin to Brembo or Brembo to Nissin??" He got no reply that I can find. This is all because my Brembo rear caliper is defunct and I cannot find any rebuild kit for it, but my '99 S3 parts bike has a new rear Nissan caliper I can use if it will work. Anybody have advice? i dont know anymore than i did, if they will mount to the steel swingarm or not. | ||

I really cant help you. On my RS I converted to a PM 4-pot and used the PM hanger. On my S1 I made my own hanger for a Brembo 2-pot from a Ducati | ||

Sorry to hijack for a minute... Loki, did you use the stock master cylinder on that 4-pot PM conversion. I have one to install yet, but haven't gotten around to attaching new line and new m/c yet. Just wanted to double check. /hijack | ||

Just realized I had the part number wrong on the s2 caliper. The S2 is parts# 44087-94Y caliper with 44089-94YA carrier. The S3 is 44087-98Y and that includes the carrier. Just to throw something else out there.... Somewhere I remember reading about using a Buell Blast front caliper but I have looked and can't not find it.... | ||

A very timely thread. I have the S3 rear caliper and mount and need a S2 one. I was going to try and use it. I know the front will not work but would be very interested if a Blast front caliper works. I may just try to find one. Frank | ||

I am going to try to do it today Frank. The sticky part is I only have one bike lifting spot, and I need to swap the caliper mount from the s3 to the s2, pulling the rear wheels off and back on with both bikes to get the caliper mount swapped. I guess this means my '99 s3 is becoming an official parts bike. | ||

Shane, I think you can tell how I supported mine in with a ladder and some tie down straps from this picture.  | ||

I have a hook on the beam holding up my garage, then I use straps and a comealong to lift. But I can only do one bike at a time. Right now I have the caliper and hanger off of the s3 and am trying to put it onto the steel swingarm on the S2, and it doesn't seem that it is going to work. I am going to fiddle with it some more, but it is binding and being non-cooperative. | ||

Update- I have the s2 put together with the s3 Nissan caliper and hanger. It seems that it just might work. let you know later. | ||

Ok, so it all went together ok, if you do this you need to use the banjo bolt that goes with the s3 nissan caliper as it has a different thread pitch than the brembo banjo bolt. Now I am just having trouble getting it bled. You would think I would be a wiz at it after spending a month bleeding the front, but so far all my tricks are getting me nowhere. I can't get any pressure built up. It seems that the s2 master cylinder should work fine, it is new and both calipers are single pot. I will just keep at it. | ||

Bench bleed it. You should be able to remove the entire system and find something the thickness of a rotor to put in between the pads. Put the caliper uphill and the ms down |
