Looking for ideas. I built my own luggage rack for the S3T, but it's kinda flimsy. I ran a piece of rod from the front saddlebag bracket mount straight back to the turn signal bolt and then bent it up and forward around the tail. It can take a good amount of weight but it jiggles a good amount and I can't seem to lessen it any.

So I'm looking for any ideas on a new iteration because I'm kind of lost. I've considered the ventura rack, but it puts the rack itself back further than I want.

Does anyone know of another rack out there that might be more stable? Or ideas on how to make one myself that's more stable?

Mark, I have the Ventura rack on my S3T. I can take some photos of it's mounting if you would like. I installed it but cannot recall how it attached. It is real stable.

That'd be a big help. I saw some photos from an M2 Ventura and it looked like there were some hooks that may have gone over top of the frame tubes, but it wasn't installed so I'm not sure.

In the meantime, I think I've found a way to stabilize this thing, at least as a 'band aid' fix for the time being - with the luggage rack and Givi mounting plate on the bike, I can't access the seat lock (mine's missing the tab, anyway, so it doesn't work). I've ruled out using the lock mount as I didn't want to put any kind of stress on the bodywork. BUT, after looking around in the trunk area, I see two screws on either side that go into the frame and hold in the plastic trunk pan.

I'm going to run an arch of steel up from these two screws up to the inside of the bodywork (to make room for the underseat bag), then run a bolt or a piece of threaded rod up through the hole for the lock cylinder and then bolt that to the luggage rack directly above it.

I don't think it will take out all of the wiggle, but I'm betting it will reduce it by a good margin.

Forward mounts at the forward upper saddle bag bracket mounting locations.








Rear uses a strap around the frame.

ventura racks are super -

if you can create your own rack
that mimics Ventura, then you're doing well

Thank, Loren. That looks pretty much exactly like the M2 pieces I saw. I like the solution but I'd be nervous of the straps wearing away the powdercoat and causing corrosion, especially if I were to try and engineer it myself.

I made my little support bracket and, while especially crude looking, appears to work well and has stabilized the top case to my liking for now. The mounting plate/luggage rack feels solid - if it were a bag and not a hard case mounted to it I'm sure it would super solid. All that extra weight bolted hard to it swinging around with the hard case contributes to the problem.

Mission accomplished for now.
