A while back I posted a question about upgrading the charging system on a tuber and Loren put up a link to the XB upgrade he did on his S3T.It seemed like the most straightforward way to go since he had worked out all the bugs and had run it for some time with no reported problems.
I ordered the parts and when they came in did the swap on my new to me '95 Ice White Pearl S2.I'm putting the "T" parts with the exception of the peg mounts and the faring lowers from my Parkway Blue '96,so I'll post pics of the finished product later.

I started by pulling the bodywork,muffler,left sideplate,shifter,shift linkage and primary cover.Then the clutch,engine sprocket,stator and primary chain as a unit.

You can see the '04 and later XB stator installed with the wiring run through the primary.I did the shifter pawl adjustment found on page 6-32 of the S2 manual,as my trans has been jumping out of 1st, installed a Hayden M6 chain adjuster and then buttoned up the primary.
I know there are a lot of people on this board that don't like the M6.Aaron Wilson has posted that an M6 will cause your engine to explode and the world to end early,but I got 97,000 miles of service out of one on my Parkway Blue bike and 70,000 miles on a previous V twin.Flame away.

The only real difference in doing this mod on an S2 compared to an S3 is the voltage regulator on the S3 mounts in front of the engine,where it is located on a downtube on the right side of an S2.Loren described how he fabricated an adapter plate to mount the XB regulator to his stock regulator mount,
so I used his design.The only change I made
was to cut a notch in the plate to accomadate the wire retention piece and screws that hold it on,found on the back of the VR.I shot some paint on the adapter plate and you can see the plate on the right
next to the XB regulator,with the stock regulator on the top of the pic below.


Next a pic of the mount on the frame.I had to drill one hole in the frame mount to mount the XB VR.You can see it to the lower right of the top stock mounting hole.




I mounted the new VR on the adapter plate and installed it with new stainless fasteners through 1/2" spacers.The spacers were to get the fasteners away from the hugger.






The S2 stator has two wires where the XB stator has three.You have to purchase an additional socket for the stator to VR connection and for the S2 install I shortened the VR to stator wires by 5 1/2" to make it a nice clean run.You have to buy an extra terminal pins since your cutting them off to shorten the harness.I wrapped the three wires in the shroud that came with the VR and held it in place with tie wraps.
I ran the wires next to the battery tray and over to the frame where I connected the two sockets.I tie wrapped the harness to the battery tray and the frame.





I didn't use the two wire connector that came with the VR for the power connections.
Instead I ran the hot to the main circuit breaker and attached it with a ring terminal.I used a redundant ground,using the
ground wire out of the VR to the battery with a ring terminal and the heavy stock ground wire from the back of the VR mount on the frame to the battery.
Everything seems to be working fine.I don't have my volt meter installed yet but I've made three trips to the mountains and I've been riding it around town with no problem.

The cost was around $270.I was running Moto Lights,Polly heaters and heated gear on the Parkway Blue bike and will transfer them to the new bike next week.The electrics were killing my battery.The stock charging system is not up to the task and I'm looking forward to running everything this winter without having to worry.

Michael, glad everything worked out smoothly. I'm sure you will enjoy the extra wattage. It has worked out really well on my S3T.
