I have an EM spy lead I made up from a deutsch plug and USB 2.0 lead. According to the ECMSpy guide, the colours should be 1-orange, 2-black, and 3-yellow. Unfortunately , the colours in my lead are red, black, green and white. I substituted green for yellow, and red for orange but could not get connectivity. A borrowed, proven lead worked on that installation( my old laptop, now gone). Any ideas as to the correct colour code? Thanks

are you converting from the 12v of the bike down to the 5v of your PC? you risk burning out the USB plug on your laptop if you don't.

that should help you with the pin out

I found your link to the ECMSpy tuning guide very interesting. I have a guide, came on the ECMSpy disc supplied by a fellow bueller. The screen grab below shows the front page, and version

There are no photos of the plug connections in my guide, the connections mentioned are the same, but the lead used is obviously different. A USB2.0 lead has only four wires , the one shown in your link has eight, hence my lack of success. I was led to believe that it was simply a normal USB lead, obviously not so. The FDTI interface lead, meant to emulate a serial comms port, has need for more. I just tested the output of the lead I had made up, the 12v output pin of the ECM was not reaching the plug, so, no damage. Now , to source the correct lead...
Thanks.
