I am going to change my oil tomorrow. I was think of going synthetic. The bike has 7800 miles on it. Is there any down side for going synthetic? I have some small rocker box oil leaks that I plan on repairing over the winter. Will I have more leaks? I know with high mileage cars you may get more leaks because the synthetic cleans the engine gunk and finds where gunk might have a leak plugged. Thanks.

Your rocker gaskets need to be replaced if they are leaking and updated to the metal gaskets which do not leak.

You are right about switching over to synth in a higher mileage engine.
I think you are at a fine point to switch over.
Bear in mind these engines pretty much last a good long time, wear wise, no matter what oil you choose.
I have always run a medium-quality mineral oil in my X1 and it's still pulling like a train at 84,000 miles.

Running the good stuff couldn't hurt!

when did 7800 miles start counting as 'higher mileage' ?

I was referring to the fact that the only downside I knew of was in higher mileage vehicles. I did not mean my X1 was high mileage.
