I have a question about the tension on my 01 M2..Is the book right when they say 1.5 to 1.75 ? I've busted another belt and am wondering if I have it to tight or to loose. I just dont want to have to do change another one any time soon ..its a bummer | ||

Get the Info from Buellistic! But as a refrence, with no one on the bike you should be able to push up on the bottom of the belt and it should come close to touching your swingarm, Not touching but close! Have run mine this way for over 50k belt still in good shape! | ||

+1 on Buellistic's belt adjustment method. (The Factory Service Manual is WRONG on this topic.) Buellistic's method works perfectly and your belts will last. Don't be put off by the extra steps. It doesn't actually take long and you will know your belt is right. | ||

+100 Buellistic!! I've been a using a similar method since I brought my M2 home 9 years ago. The factory service manuals are all wrong on this subject, and there's lots of bikes out there whose wheel bearings and transmission output bearings have suffered from being waaaayyyy too tight. | ||

OK..Thank You Guys... This might sound kind of stupid, but how do you tell were the tight spot is ? would it be closest to either end of the total distance ? | ||

As you turn the rear wheel you might notice that the belt is tighter in some positions than others. Rotate the wheel to find the place where there is the least amount of belt play. | ||

Could you just post the main points of what to look for on belt tension? Mine is very tight. |
