OK, so not THAT bad - no accident or anything (but by the grace of God, given what happened).

Had to renew my license today. There's an MVA (Maryland's version of DMV) about eight miles from here. Another about 25 miles away.

I turned it into a 120 mile loop going to the one 25 miles away : ) Gorgeous weather - mid 70s, dry, and sunny - and a bike that was just..."happy".

Came home, did a couple things around the house, went back out to figure out why father-in-law's truck won't start.

Start hearing a rattle. Not a lightweight rattle, more of a repetitive thunking. Weird. Can't find it to save my life.

Get the truck fixed (battery - an '05 with 160k miles, OEM battery, he got his money's worth).

Fire the bike up, on choke, and there's that damned rattle again. Weird. Look for it for about ten minutes, nothing. Hm. Get on the road....OH, OK. THAT'S WHAT THE NOISE IS.

See...it had gotten dark by now.

My headlight has come loose, and is pointed at the front fender. My HIGH beam is pointed about ten feet in front of the bike.

Good thing I added those PIAAs a couple years ago!

Get out of the daaark rural area and find a lighted parking lot. Fiddle, wiggle, shove, SNAP. Huh. It's back in place. Ride most of the way home until....whap! Pointed at the ground again. Grrrr.

Get home, pull the fairing (what a pain in the ass - and paranoia doesn't help, what with worrying about cracking an unobtanium piece of fiberglass), and the top adjuster screw on the headlight bucket (the one that does the vertical adjust) has slipped upwards, out of the headlight bucket notch, allowing the bucket to fall forward. Hmmm. Fiddle, figure, fiddle some more, and come up with the idea to drill 2 holes in the headlight bucket, one on either side of the offending screw. Run a zip tie through the two holes and around the adjuster screw, and pull tight - hopefully keeping that screw from moving upwards and out of that notch ever again.

More fun than I should be allowed to have on a Saturday night.

Mine did the same.

Here is how I fixed it.

Mine pulled away too

I found a bare steel split washer in my bins that was a perfect slip fit

I threw two spot welds in. It has held for about 2k miles so far...

Nice.

Wish I could weld.

(I mean, intentionally...a wrench taking the + terminal off a battery doesn't count!)
