Hello all, My friend has a '95 S2 with about 10,000 miles on it. When he bought it, it still had the original tires on it with less than 2,500 miles. He put dual compound Avon Storms on it. The first tire got about 2,500 miles on it before he had it replaced with another as it developed a wear pattern he described as it looked as though someone took a router to the left side of center. He now has less than 2000 miles on the second Avon Storm and has a similar wear pattern. I have not seen the bike or the tire, but we are looking for anyone with a similar problem and a possible fix. If we drove on the LEFT side of the road as in ENGLAND you would see the same wear pattern on the right side of the tire ... Roads are always higher in the center for water run off is the WHY of the wear pattern ... Also we tend to corner harder to the LEFT(all the OVAL RACE TRACKS) than to the RIGHT ... Routers have an exceedingly large number of varying bit shapes. Does he have a photo of this condition? If it's just more wear on one side, then road crown (Lafayette's answer) is the only logical answer. Unless he likes riding around a circuit with only left turns...... | ||

I have heard of this, but in over 35 years of riding all sorts of motorcycles, I have never incurred this. Our roads around here have a slight crown, but not all roads are crowned in our area. I will try to get a picture to post. What he explained is not normal wear. | ||

It could be caused by a number of things. Bearings, balance but I tend to agree with Lafayette if it is on one side... A picture would help.. | ||

On my bikes I have to run the front tire with 42-44# of air in them or they will cup and I think this is what is happening with your friends tire. I can get away with 34# in the rear and they wear fine but not the front. I am using Metzler Z6 tires and these seem to give the best results on the S2 at least for me | ||

When he brings it over this week I will take a picture and post it. Thanks for the tips and I will let you know. I was thinking it was something not aligned, engine in the frame, one fork tube not even with the other, etc. | ||

Ed I bought a Metzeler Steel Radial Mez4 170/60ZR17 on ebay,$70 delivered from privit ownerNew.It,s the first tire I could not mount my-self.I took To a trusted bike shop,the tire stand bolted to the floor and bead-bar 4 foot long.The man who mounted it was sweeting by the time he got it on!!!The most rigid tire I have ever Seen!!!  | ||

What is the date on that tire Ebutch? From the sounds of it, it is quite old and hard because they shouldn`t be that hard to mount.I just checked the catalog and they are not offered any longer only for some odd Triumph sizes like 130/80x17. I would watch it the first few miles to be sure you don`t take a ride off road by accident Just my 2 cents worth | ||

They can roll without air. I road 15 miles home one time thinking that the bike was handling like a pig turned out had a flat tire. |
