When my bike got really hot the Rpm would go up and sputter. I check the intake gasket and it seems fine. I now have ECM spy. I have not had the weird idle problem for a couple of months now. When looking at ECM spy I noticed in the cold start enrichment chart something that might explain my weird idling when hot problem. Is it normal to have an enrichment of 110% at 260 degrees C? I know that is 500 degrees F, but both times it happened was heavy traffic and it was very hot ambient temp.

Also, how do you data log? It says that it is logging, but I can not find the log.

I believe the sputter (as well as the cold start enrichment value) is an attempt by the ecm to keep the bike from over heating and throwing the engine light on. my X1 does it in traffic as well also when i've been cruising in the high 80s for a while. I'm attempting to change my maps and experimenting with some other mods to keep my engine cooler but its slow goin now that I'm taking classes again

In your program files under ecmspy you should a megalog file with the logs in it.

Datalogging is done by riding, WITH the computer hooked up and ECM spy connected.

It is not unusual for engines in general to have a "safety" built it, that will fatten the fuel mix on purpose when the engine gets too hot. More fuel = cooler running.

Sputtering...that sounds like something else going on. Check intake seals, plugs, plug wires, and other "little" stuff. And make sure using ECMspy that your engine temp sensor (ETS) is reading properly, as well as your O2 sensor.

When I data log it shows it is working, but I can not find the file. There is no folder found.

Ratbuell:
Maybe the difference in the front and rear maps or how the ecm adds fuell to them. But its noticeable that the idle increases and the rpm jumps, fluctuating much more. I dont know if thats the same sputter carbon is talking about but it seems as if the cylinders aren't getting the same amount of fuel or is skipping a spark.

I had the same problem when I started,Try reloading megalog viewer, thats what I did and the megalog file under ecmspy was there. also if you have windows 7 try clicking compatibility on the menu bar area.

Mine used to do that too.
I fixed it by turning down the idle a little.
I suggest around 900 RPM.

When you perform your idle speed adjustment first completely slacken the throttle cables. A throttle with too tight of a cable can cause the same problem.
