I tend to get bored and then take things apart. It usually works to my advantage. Today I found that my X1 has no tube running from the air box to the intake. Essentially, I've been running without an air filter. Does anyone know where to buy a new snorkel? Could I fit up something with flexible tubing perhaps? Any inexpensive after market air cleaners that can fit inside the plastics? (I am one of a select few who LIKES the big black plastics) And I guess, while I'm here, is it safe to ride on bad isolators? I'm waiting for a new pair in the mail, but I love riding. |

No filter at all? "Gutting" the air box is a pretty common modification to improve engine breathing. The modification involved removing the snorkel, adding an orifice ring to the TB inlet, replacing the stock air filter with a K&N unit held in place with long bolts over the air inlet hole for the box. |

Desert fox is correct. My X1 was gutted by the dealer before I bought it. Sand and dirt was always getting into the "clean" side of the intake. It was the primary reason I went to the forcewinder setup. Other models work fine with a gutted box like M2s and S3s. If they have a separate pod on the side of the engine, you know? The X1 bikes have the huge outer cover that flaps at the bottom when the engine is idling. You can stick a finger in there! It was a demobike when I bought it. The dealer had decked it out with the race ECU, loud pipe and the "feature" of sandy intake! They wouldn't get me the snorkel or the stock parts like they promised either. (It was Boston H-D btw) |

Too bad i just gave away my "econo winder" to a fellow badwebber 3 days ago. It was a factory snorkel. Then cut off 2" and add the k&n air filter to the end and viola an econo winder. |

yeah, all that was removed was the snorkel. The intake is just wide open inside the box. The stock air filter is in place, but obviously doing nothing. |

ebay;.. I have an extra bread box (aircleaner). I should have all the parts for it put away. If you need it asap I could sell them to you. I have them so the bike could be fully stock again, figured it would a good idea for it's value. |

Naw, I have the box and everything. The only thing missing is the tube running from the filter to the intake. I should start taking pictures, seriously I think I'll look around for a replacement and run it as is for now. |

If you can't find the OEM snorkel you can get a Forcewinder elbow and filter and fit it under the cover. (Message edited by kalali on September 06, 2010) |
