OK More than a crack, the left upper subframe tube, ahead of where it clamps into the frame is cracked all the way through. Its just above the weld. Looks like fatigue.
Just got back from a spirited ride with my son who rode his RC51, mostly away from me. Bike is running great, carb all rebuilt and body work all redone. Crap! Will be tearing it down and hopefully can get it welded.

Just in case, anybody have a spare one they want to sell?

Any suggestions on reinforcing it?

I've got an ugly one that's been repaired. I haven't had a chance to do a check fit yet, but can get my fairing from the neighbors this week (scared my kids might hit it) and do a check. The gent who fixed mine used a piece of welding rod to create a support.

Mine did the same thing- it was because the support brace in the center lost its bolt.

I had the same problem on a lower right support. You need to keep the mirrors and turn signal bolts tight, not fiberglass crackin' tight, but snugged down, things start to vibrate and crack otherwise.

Triman023, take it to a welder and they should be able to fix it and suggest a way to fix it better.

Bike is stripped down now. The autoshop that repaired the damage from the tow driver offered to paint the body parts for free. They did an excellent job on the fairing so off they go. Will pick em up Friday.
I still have to get the instrument pod and headlight off, any advice?

Easy, thanks for the offer on the sub frame, I think a good welder will be able to fix mine.

Now I can clean it up and fix some more stuff I usually ignore cause I can't see it.

Always great to have all your advice!

Got my fairing frame welded by Mackie Welding in Sierra Madre, CA. I really nice guy and did the job in 2 hours for $40. He put in gussets and it feels very much stronger. After a day of reassembly and finding a bunch or other thing needing fixing, it looks like my bike again. The only problem is, no brake lights. They seem to be shorted on. I will look for a wire shorted or a bad switch.
Anyway, thanks again for the advice...

On mine the actually switch housing on the handlebar came loose causing intermittent contact... Acted like a short... Of course it was the last thing I checked.

Bluzm2 I had the wires FLIPPED! My daily dose of irony, I flipped em the last time I took the tail off and didn't notice. Like an idiot I carefully noted the (wrong) arrangement and repeated it when I put it back together.
After looking at the bulb when tapping the brakes it dawned on me..

One last thing, fired the bike up and very little vibration of the fairing!

Calif. #30 of 36 is back on the road.

I am glad you got it fixed and back on the road... Where a S2 belongs.

Glad you got it fixed. Mine has had multiple electrical problems, including a taillight issue at one point. It turned out that the connectors in the block, where the rear harness connects, were corroded.

Ah yes... The dreaded corroded connections... This happens to the relays as well.... Lucky for us we can get those anywhere.
