Hi All,

Have I found the cause of my low rev vibes???

Is this caused by a primary chain that's too loose? I was sure I had it set right....obviously not!!!

It's almost cut through the case to the bolt hole:

Is this what was causing my low rev vibes?

Yes it was a pig under 3,000. Ran badly and had a nasty shake/vibes......Happy I've actually found what's wrong.

Shows how important it is to get the chain tension right....I know too tight is really bad but obviously too loose can cause problems also. A hole in the case would not work well!

Yep!

Probably making cool noises too.

Don't feel too badly though, my bike exhibits the same marks. (Though not quite as deep)

When i first got mine it was just like that. The chain was slapping the case. That was the first thing i had to fix on my X1. The PO did not maintain the bike for crap. It took me a year to get it fixed and running right.

Adjusted mine this past Sat. It was loose, but obviously not that loose. Glad I went the extra step. Once the tranny fluid is out it only takes a few extra minutes, and a new gasket.

I have one off now on one of my bikes for the detent plate retaining ring broken problem and the cover looks similar to what you have. I got it with 4k and it did the herky jerky and made lots a noise when I bought it. I did tighten it and it was so much better. I did have it off to replace the starter and up grade it to the newer primary gasket but did not look at the wear marks or notice them at that time (about 1 1/2 years ago). I also have a spare primary I got a while ago (used)and it has absolutely no marks on it. Anyway I will not be running it to loose. If you look close at yours they (the chain) would be cutting into the primary bolts soon. Hey it's your bike do what you want. I do. It's my toy and I can do what I think is proper.
