hi,thanks for the attention to this post in advance: i bought this M2 (3 months ago it was running now its almost dead, trying to bring her to life). it's my first buell, -i always wanted one- i've been riding for 25 years, had almost owned and if not ridden almost every brand of motorcycle imaginable. and i'm new on buells, and this forum. i'm a car mechanic and motorcycle passionate. ok, i need to upgrade my M2 front and rear... i've done swingarm conversions in the past, including a zx14 with a VFR swingarm, did my own mounts, etc, the same in ducati monsters, speed triples, etc. let's start on the rear: i have a 1997 M2, and i got an spare 99-02 aluminum swingarm, complete with motor mount, axle and adjusting blocks. My 1997 M2 has the 97-98 steel swingarm, brembo rear caliper, etc. and the 16.5 " shock. somebody told me that all i'm missing is the front shock mount for the 14.5 shock, and that this one can work with the shock i have, which is a 16.5" shock. (by the way look at the pic, is it backwards or is just me?) what about the brembo rear brake caliper? it will fit with no mods? is that true? i need help confirming this. on the front: i have a spare front end 1999-2002 (showa inverted forks from a S3, complete with the upper and lower triple trees, steering stem, etc) what else do i need, besides the 99-02 front fender? i almost forgot i have a steering dampener from storz for the M2 forks, anybody knows the size of the clamp for the showa forks? here are some pics from when i bought it, looks almost the same but i put already a 2.5mm header and a vince & hines exhaust. (by the way i'm missing the exhaust hanger "dog bone" i have the older one you can see it in the pics - what else do i need) the header is OeM buell with a 2.5" outlet but i need also a spring, i guess because it has a small bracket for it, like i said before i used a ssr Vance &hines and works fine but missing the spring and the hanger (some people call them "dog bone" this is attached to the older 97-98 hanger or how it works) i know i'm asking way too much info, but also for the ones that know, look in the pics, please do you see any other modifications?, like the tank, etc. (i know about the airstream moto gp tail) about the engine is a 1420 cc bored motor with s&s cyl, pistons, rods, etc, etc. that one of the pistons seized (rear) last weekend. right now,i'm rebuilding the engine so in the meantime i want to powder coat the swingarm, forks, etc. (anybody knows a good place in So. California to powder coat some parts -L.A. area) any info is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Nice looking bike , yes the shockie is on backwards ,and if you put the front shock mount for a 14.5 on, it will sit a lot lower if you use the 16.5 shock . the front end will bolt straight on but you will also need x1 headlight mounts as well as the fender. I think the uppers on the forks are 55mm for the damper. Don't know about the rear brake tho. |

The inverted uppers are 54 mm. I had two dampeners but none now. Very nice bike. The airtech tail looks very good and the bike will look really sweet when get the said mods done. Unfortunately, the Brembo rear caliper will NOT work with the aluminum swingarm with modification. That being said- with the skills you've mentioned, I don't see why you couldn't get a '99-'02 caliper bracket to use as a template to build one to fit the Brembo. Also, you might check with Al @ American Sport Bike to see if he can get you the 54 mm mount alone. There are some X1 and S1 headlight mounts on eBay NIP, but they are all right side mounts. The dealer selling them ran out of lefts somehow. |

BTW you can keep the shock mount you have now on there and the shock; the aluminum swingarm swap alone will drop the rear about an inch. |

I have a Headlamp Assembly PN 67835-96Y. Check the part numbers you need for HL and mounting brackets, and I'll see if we have them and what kind of deal we can put together for you. I also have a black X1 wind screen New in Box as well as a used one I'll make you a deal on if you decide to go that route. |
