I was checking the oil today, on my '99 X1, and saw that the ECM had "For Racing Use Only" printed on it. Is this typical?

If not, should I be worried that the motorcycle may be over-tuned for daily driving?

That would be the race ECM,tis the usual upgrade, I wouldn't worry.

It's pretty much mandatory to have it if you've got an after market exhaust and/or intake upgrades. The bike will run too lean otherwise. You should be good to go. I'm fairly sure the "for race use only" is there to cover Buell's butt in case a "what if" arose.

But to directly answer your question, no, it's not stock.

"For Race Use Only" is legalese for "We didn't check this through the EPA". It's normal on bike with aftermarket items on intake or exhaust. Technically it is not street legal because the EPA hasn't cleared it, but you'll see it a lot if you look at most aftermarket parts just check summit racing.

Oh, okay! Well, from what I can tell, I think the exhaust is presently stock. I'd better double check that though. (I'm one of those people who needs to know every nut and bolt)

Take it off, if it weighs about 40 lbs. it's probably the stocker: )

Also easy to tell by the sound...The stocker is quiet.

No pics, but I think it's non-stock.

Here's why.
1. The exhaust is the updated exhaust pictured in the X1 Files labeled Buell Race Kit Exhaust.
2. This X1 starts hauling at a lower RPM than most people claim the stockers do.
3. The previous owner was a harley mechanic (supposedly) and would have probably upgraded.
