Okay, I LOVE my M2L, and I actually paid it off last Friday. But after riding it for a few months it quickly became clear that I need Storage! So, the only Logical thing to do is to find a Tuber with Storage! I wanted a Fuelie/Post Recall bike, that was well optioned for around $3K

So I found this:
http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/mcy/1888789699. html

Okay, if you're Sharp you've noticed I live in a Glorified Corn Field called Columbus, IN, and this Cargo Capable Cruiser is in Salt Lake City. SLC for you LDS Fans! Well, I'm always looking to Multi-Task. I have a Brother in MormansVille, and he wants to ride. I just couldn't come up with an excuse, or the motivation to go 1300 miles to get out there. Well, now I Kinda Have to! So I'm thinking a weeks vacation! Fly out on a Friday, Ride Sat & Sun, hit the road home Monday. Take a Scenic Route back to my designated Corn Field, and have a couple of days left to get the New Bike acquianted with it's new home.

BTW, the agreed upon price is $3200. He was one step away from adding this engine to his next Chopper project...And $3200 was his bottom line.

Did I do okay?

Looks like a nice bike glad to hear you saved it from the evel chopper people on top of that. Looks like a perfect bike to do some road trips on and maybe even have the companion ride with you with comfort.

Looks can be deceiving, so just check it out carefully before you head home with it. Mine seemed like a shoe in when I bought it, turned out to be a nightmare for about 2 months.

But I also paid $1000 more than you are.

My S3T is my favorite bike I've ever owned. If I was forced to keep one bike that I've already owned for the rest of my life, the S3T would be it without hesitation.

Ok I'm gonna play the devils advocate here.

1st off it's on Craigslist( the scammers emporium )

Why not Ebay? where you have some buyer protection.

I'm always leary of people who list HP and TQ...does he have a dyno sheet for it? If not who knows what power it makes. It's almost a 10 yr old bike

If I'm not mistaken those aren't the original wheels, does he have the originals? why did he replace them?

Are those Buell saddlebags or aftermarket?

Wheel bearings already at 9000mi..whats up with that? Mine is 3yrs older with twice the miles and my wheel bearings are fine. And why would you put that in the ad.

Do you believe that is the original mileage? That doesn't seem like that much for a 9yr old touring bike with all that gear and new wheel bearings. Speedo's are easy to replace.

Does he have any service records for the bike?

When did he last change the primary fluid? What type of oil did he use? Does he know what primary fluid is?

Has it ever been down or crashed?

The ad says "has other upgrades" what are those? and why on earth would you have mentioned new wheel bearings and not the other upgrades

Is he the original owner?

Get more Hi Res pics from other angles and of the bags

Those are just some things that went thru my mind after I read his ad

Holy paranoid, Batman.

Those are the original PM wheels. Those are factory bags. Other upgrades could simply be the fact that the paint isn't original (black and orange was not a factory combo as far as I know, unless 2001 was a build to order year...).

Buyer protection? The last TWO items I bought off ebay showed up defective and was asked to return them both - one for a replacement and the other for a refund. I've received neither, and ebay's and paypal's rules now say that too much time has passed for them to do anything about it.

I'll agree, all good questions to ask, though - and higher res photos are a must. Deal in person.

I've bought a lot of stuff off ebay. Twice I had problems. Paypal credited my account both times after not getting satisfaction from the dirtball seller. They have been good to me

Why not grab the bike in Mo. Much closer, looked like a sweet bike. Not quite as sweet looking as the SLC bike from what I remember, but still worth considering. Look through the last month of classifieds.

I give a lot of credit to those of you who buy a used bike and plan on a 1000+ mile ride back home...
I just don't have the guts to do something like that unless someone with a trailer is following me and it is something super special...
All the luck.

Yes. I'm not sure exactly when the switch happened (around 2000 I think) that they switched to the more organic-looking PM wheels without the slots.

Those are factory bags. I suspect the "second" set of bag is actually just the shallow covers. I lot guys did that as the shallow one look far better and hold enough for one person for a weekend.

The wheel bearings may have been over-torquing during tire changes leading to premature bearing failure.

Well, I had a 1+ hour conversation with the seller. He told me the entire history of the bike, has receipts & records of everything done. I was counting on my European Vacationing Brother to check this out in person, and handle the transaction until I could find a good week to take off to go get this Baby.

I still plan to get the bike, I just don't have the luxury of a set of Local Eyes there before I fly in to deal in person.

I've thought about the MO bike, but I'm leaning towards a later Fuel Injected bike. BTW, the HP / Torque figures posted are the stock figures...A 1300 mile ride home on a "Strange" bike sounds a little Sketchy even to me. That's why I was hoping to have a few days to buzz around the SLC area to shake this beast down, and get a feel for it. Anyone in SLC looking to ride out towards FLA end of Aug / Early SEP? Maybe we can ride together.

The adventure continues, I'll keep Y'all Posted.

She will be Mine. Oh, Yes! She WILL be Mine!

Man I guess I am too late to offer my S3t for sale. And I am in columbus. Columbus ohio that is. Mine is black/black rims/ titanium frame. vance and hines SS2r exhaust, forcewinder intake,
new tires, ect can go on all day. One major problem with these bikes is the front drive pulley, not easy to check unless he has a power inpact but this is a concern you should look into.

I made a Bass Guitar Trade with a guy from Columbus, Ohio a few weeks back. We met near Kings Island...

Sounds like a Nice Ride! Out of curiosity, what year is yours Sarge?

What seems to be the Major Problem with the F-Drive Pulley? It'll be due for the 10K maintenance when I get her home. I'll definitely check it then.

I shipped a bike from SoCal to Upstate NY for $560 and change, picked up at my friend's house and dropped off in my driveway. SLC to IN should surely be less.

I'd want to see the bike in person before shelling over the cash, though.

Yes, Shipping is an Option, and I had prepared for that option if I couldn't get the time off. (It was a touch under $400) Which I have! (The time off...) But, yeah, I want to see the bike before handing over my Shekels. Plus this is an opportunity to see 2 of my 3 Brothers at the same time while picking up the bike. The 1300 mile Test Ride is just a Bonus!

The common problem with these bikes is the drive pulley itself has splines. These splines just twist off, the shaft stays fine but the pulleys are junk, 197$ for a new one but if it goes bad it could leave you stranded somewhere. not an issue that you notice over time. Mine is a 97 s3t, no side bags, custom undertail, led cat eyes turn sigs. just flipped 19000. I just had to replace the front pulley and i went with factory harley 29 tooth. Best option it to convert to chain if you ride her harder then normal.

Alright, who's got the SKINNY on the Best bike shipper? I called the place that gave me the "Quick On-line Quote", and the price JUMPED to $630...

I'm still planning to ride it back, but I want to have my Plan "B" in place if "Something" rears it's ugly head. Any Referrals/recommendations?

I used Haul Bikes (www.haulbikes.com)

Don't go by their online quote - mine was going to be over $700 with the residential pickup and delivery surcharges for a coast to coast shipment. When I talked to them on the phone they told me $563, everything included.

It does seem pricey - they charged me $563 from Los Angeles, CA to Albany, NY, residential to residential. I don't know what the deal is with that...

Well, it is what it is. And it's Plan "B". It should be about $300 to fly there and drive it home, assuming nothing goes wrong...

I've got a BRAN list put together for Buell-Brothers in Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. Hopefully I won't need to make a Distress Call! But might be able to meet up with someone along the way, assuming I don't knock this out in 1 Shot! But traveling during the Week will probably rule out a lot of Socializing...

$300??? I should take notes from you.

Plane Ticket
Gas
Food
Lodging

I think I was averaging $1,000/week when I was on the road this past June.
