In 2001 I bought a used '99 S3T, at least thats what the paperwork says, but according to 25 Years of Buell they didn't make S3Ts in 1999.

Soooo, what do I have, a S3 w/bags or a S3T???

In 99 you could get a S3 or S3t. The t had bags and lowers. I have a 99 bought new and could have got it either way.

Dealer listed the bike as a S3T, so they were incorrect/ignorant? YES!

Ebutch, haven't made her stand-up straight and say cheese for digital camera! (all distant photos on digital)

Doughnut, it's all yours! Any action shots?

The 99 model year(and only that year) year allowed customers to custom order a bike, i.e. frame color, body color, accessories like hard bags wide narrow or both

now I'm confused, I own what I believe is a 1999 S3T, my title says S3T. Is a fact that what I really have is a well appointed S3?

I had no idea...huh.

I'm going to go on telling people it is an S3T, even if it's not. Oh Yea, I'm a Cop, and I like donuts.

Lupo - does yours have everything in the touring package?

-saddle bags w/liners
-fairing pouches
-underseat bag
-raised handlebars
-lower leg fairings

If you have it all, I'd say call it an S3T.

Mine is a 2002, so definitely an S3T, but I still just call it an S3 to most folks when they ask.

The whole S3/S3T thing is kind of confusing. As we've learned, there was no official S3T in 1999, but you could order an S3 with the 'Touring Package' that included everything an S3T would have had extra. Additionaly, at least for the last couple years (and possibly the entire production run), an S3T would only be built if sold to a customer, so any 'S3T's that were sitting on the dealer's floor as stock were likely just S3s with the touring accessories added on. Which is another interesting thing... You could buy an S3 and get all the S3T gear after the fact, which is why I think you see a lot of supposed S3T's out there that are missing the extra bags in the fairing or the lower leg fairings - they're not gone because they were damaged or lost, they're gone because they were never there to start with because all the bike is is an S3 with the hardbag kit on it.

The only way to know how the bike left the factory is from the VIN - the real T's do carry a unique digit. This doesn't have any effect on value currently, though it might in the future if these things get collectible.
