I must have a bad connection somewhere. Today I went to a bike night. I had to take the turnpike to get there. As I entered the turnpike I accelerated up to 70 and every now and then it would feel like the engine would cut out and refire. It must have done it 30 or 40 times. I pulled over when I could and checked the coil and wires. Everything seemed fine. I drove to the bike night and it might have done it 3 more times. When I was driving at back road speeds it ran fine. When it cooled down I checked the underseat wires and the wires down by the starter. When I drove home it ran fine. I have no clue, but it now runs fine. I guess I got to get used to these quirks. | ||

That could be a possibility. I fueled up about 5 minutes before I hit the turnpike. I was thinking it might be bad gas. | ||

My S3 was doing this relentlessly one night, just out of the blue. I was freaking out as I was leaving for a looooooong trip in a few days and couldn't find any wires. I replaced the plugs and sprayed silicone on the wires thinking it was bad wires that got wet from having just washed it. It gave me a single hiccup maybe 3 times on the 4,000 trip, but aside from that hasn't acted up again. Did you wash the bike before the bike night? | ||

I read the thread you mentioned. I wasn't implying that the Fitch inserts will turn an X1 into an 1190RR... I have put the Fitch inserts into all my bikes (X1, HD Night Train, Triumph Bonneville, Honda CBR600RR track bike, and my three dirt bikes) and have had nothing but positive results. I can't say that there has been any performance increases, however, I have not needed to add any type of fuel stabilizer (i.e., StaBil) when storing my bikes for long periods of time, nor have I had to clean injectors or carbs after months of storage using the Fitch inserts. Where I live in New Mexico, there are many gas stations that have less than optimal gas. While I try to avoid these stations as much as possible, there are times that necessity drives gassing up at one of these stations. Since I put the Fitch inserts in my tanks, I have not experienced any pinging or misfiring even after filling up with crappy gas. Bottom line: The Fitch inserts have worked well for the reasons I needed to use them. | ||

If spark plugs are black, it's probably losing spark. If they are white, it's losing fuel. Try that first. |
