I have a 2001 X1 with a Vance and Hines SS2R slip on and a forcewinder intake, oh and a Race ECU. I like the bike but it doesn't seem to have scary power like I hear alot of people talk about. The bike only has 7k miles on it so I don't think it's just tired. Is there anything I can to to give the bike more power? I'd like to be able to keep up with my friends stock XB12R.

I have the same setup on my m2 . I dont know about scary power , but it has decent torque . It seemed scary when I first got it was scary but not after 5 months and about 40000 miles . The power is pretty controllable on mine . somebody else speak up & tell me the power differance because I have never ridden an X 1.

scary power...long way from it.
Even my 99 R1 didn't have scary power,lots of power,yes but scary,nope.

What i like about the X1 is it doesn't have the,i need to be doing at least 120mph to be fun aspect as the R1 did.
Altho i'd love more power from the X1.

My S1W had an SS2R on it when I got it.

I changed to a Buell race exhaust (header and muffler) and WHOA BOY. What a difference.

And yes, it was jetted properly both times.

IMO, the SS2R is good for noise, and breaking brackets...and not much else. You lose a ton of low end torque, and top end feels flat.

Years ago, I put an SS2R on my M2...and it left me feeling the same way. At the time (2000ish) you could still get the Buell 'race' slipon - internal disc supertrapp - so when the SS2R broke *again*, I switched over to the 'trapp. Made the same marked difference that time, too.

If you can find a Buell system, grab it.

You can still get the internal disc Supertrapp...from Supertrapp. Also a very nice muffler, and tunable. Check with a sponsor (I think American Sport Bike has the 'trapp), they'll get you hooked up.

Maybe the people talking about the scary power just couldn't ride or last rode a Honda Rebel.

When I first got my Buell a friend and I were in town, me on the Buell and he on a 2000 Roadstar 1600. This kid asked about my Buell and he was spouting off about how he test rode one and it was just too heavy blah, blah, blah and his was much lighter when my friend cut him off and said, "what have you got, a 250?" Kid said, "yeah" so that was the end of that conversation.

I took the long way around the bush just to say make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

Well my 2 bikes of comparison are an 86 Suzuki VS700 of mine and the X1 definately blows that away, and my friends 04 XB12R which feel like it wants to save the front tire for later by keeping it off the ground whenever possible. I'm not much for running around at 100+ and If I ever tried to do a wheelie on purpose I'm fairly sure the world would end. Thanks for the input I'll look into the trapp. My SS2R also has a broken rear mount and the previous owner gutted it, I rebuilt the muffler and fixed the rear mount but little change other than a few db drop.

Well, my tubers are much more linear and reserved than my XB...so what you're seeing isn't surprising. The XBs are muuuch lighter than the tubers, and they have a much shorter wheelbase, so they feel a little more hooligan by nature.

Ride it a while now that you've rebuilt the SS2R, though - let the DDFI learn the backpressure change. It may get a little better...

Not sure what you mean by "rebuilding" the SS2R but a properly packed SS2R may sound more muted but has much better low end torque than an empty can. If you want scary power you should try the new Yamaha VMax. To me it felt like a loaded gun...YMMV
