Say my gas cap is refusing to come off. What might one do to get the stupid thing off to refill the tank?

lotta patience and a little luck.

Once off see why it stuck, did the plastic latch rotate out of position if so re-tighten the nut and use some epoxy to hold it in place or is the plastic need to be sanded down for a smother fit?

I think the plastic latch wore down because i can keep spinning the latch and nothing happens. The cap won't even come up a little.

LOL, this is a known problem with the tubers.
To get it off, you have to remove the aluminum trim ring around the gas cap, i think there are 6 or 8 screws holding it on.
This will remove the whole gas cap assembly from the fuel cell, and allow you to loosen the nut on your gas cap, and remove the cap from the assembly.

While you have the assembly off, you can better see what is causing your problems, and resolve them before putting the assembly back on the fuel cell.

Usually, it's the black piece that actually locks the gascap down in place swells and will not fit back up through the gas opening.
A little filing and all is well once again.
But it sounds like you may be having a different issue, you say when you lift up on the latch, and turn it, it just keeps spinning?
This sounds like the nut on the bottom has come loose.

either way, removing the whole assembly is your best option, and least painful.

Good luck!

Thanks Bartimus... so I see what happened. The keyed hole in the black piece wore out and became a circle so spinning the latch doesnt do anything anymore. Any idea of what to do?

same happened to me. I bought a new cap since you can't just get that plastic piece – it's $50ish.

I saw someone use JB Weld to cement it together once.

A cap from a Blast will also fit and they're a bit cheaper. They don't have the lock.

You can get a used cap on ebay as noted, or you can get a brand new Blast cap from a dealer if you have a good one nearby (or one of our sponsors here on Badweb). Blast caps fit tubers perfectly.

Same thing happened on my S3. I ground points into a fender washer like a 8 pointed star that was slightly larger than the well in the bottom of the plastic. Heated up the edge of the washer and pressed it into the plastic part. Took a file and made 2 flats on the hole so the black piece would index and was good to go

fyi, when you take the whole assembly off, get a new gasket. it will shrink & not go back on easily!

And when you put the assembly back on, seal it up with some Hylomar. Otherwise you'll have gas sloshing out around the edges.

Hylomar makes it but now Perma-Tex makes a knock-off. Found at most auto parts stores
