not sure how to make this thread come out of the archive so people can see: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/576575.html I'd like to continue the discussion. its been a while but I think that I have made some progress. Cyclonecharlie, I went around and fixed the clinking noises produced by the rubber mallet, but I'm still hearing the sound. The one place that I can still produce a clinking noise is my front rotor. Looks like the carrier bolts have some play. I don't hear them making noise when the bike is idling, but funny enough, if I roll over the bumps that would cause the sound while I apply a feather amount of front brake... no noise. Has anyone experienced this before? Could I be hearing a loose brake rotor? I found this thread, but I'm not completely sure if they are talking about when the bike is idling or driving or both. Well if you can't solve it any other way...take the front brake and rotor off(for test purposes only) and go for a short ride over some bumps.But my moneys on the rotor. | ||

Once you take off the rotor, it's new mounting screws for you. And they ain't cheap, either. If you have play in the rotor, there are some fixes, like new curvy washers (can't remember the tech name).... but ultimately, a new rotor is a good thing. OEM rotors used to be on ebay for about a hundred.... otherwise look at American Sport Bike web site for better alternatives. You can use XB rear rotor screws for the front tuber rotors. They are a bit cheaper, and good stuff (shouldered, so stronger than all threaded). | ||

Aren't they wave washers? Seems like the fix was to use a couple of them to keep the rotor from rattling. If it works why replace it? Find a nut and bolt supply for less expensive replacement hardware. | ||

mine clunks but thats because of the carrier pins in the caliper being slightly worn down and rattling. Sounds like youve found your issue though. |
