I went for a ride yesterday after the bike sat for a few days and I noticed some oil on the rear of my exhaust. After inspection I saw a drop hanging from the primary drain plug and it appeared like the bottom of the primary was wet. From what I can see, I think the primary gasket may be weeping. I noticed the same thing a few weeks ago, cleaned it up and rechecked after every ride and everything was fine.
It only appears to do it after the bike has been unused for a few days.
Anyone else had a similar experience, any idea on how to fix it?
I used a H-D gasket when I put the cover back in the spring.
Thanks in advance.

Any oil that drops onto that area seems to want to make it look as if your gasket is leaking, since the oil follows the line of the seam on its downward travel toward the ground.

It may indeed be your gasket, but you may want to clean it up again, all over, give it a powdering, and see if oil is coming from anywhere else, and just dropping onto the primary. Just to be sure.

Good idea with the powder thing.
I had some oil around the oil pump as well but that may have been residue from before. I had the camchest open for a whole winter and it leaked all over the bottom of the bike.
I did a good cleaning with some brake cleaner last night, the bottom was still dry this morning.
The only thing that's strange is that if I use the bike every day, there is no oil seeping out. If I let it sit for a few days, then ride it, then there is oil coming out, strange...

I would say it is either the starter gasket or the stator plug leaking. It will run down the back of the motor and drip out under the bike. It is more than likely the starter gasket.

Preybird, so I would look for oil around the area where the starter mates to the inner primary, right?

Yes. Mine would leak up top and when i would ride it, It would run down the back side of the motor. On mine it looked like the drain bolt but it was not. I had to fix the starter gasket and the stator plug leak. Now it is dry as a bone.

OK, thanks a lot for the info, I'll check it out tomorrow.

If it's not that, I've read that the American Sport Bike primary gaskets are better than the OEM ones, maybe I'll try one of those.

@ Preybird, looks like you're right, I shone a light in there and there is oil on the case, just underneath the starter.
