Frank, is that the former "bumblebee" frame? Big improvement...

This one's a year old, but I like it:

Yep, same bike. It is coming along. I would have been a lot further along till the better half found out I was building it in the basement. I am back in the garage tomorrow.

Great looking S2 Mr. RT

Had to replace a speedo drive and speedo and figure I might as well add a GPS. I am ready for Texas.

Sorry for the quality of the pics. Not the camera but the operator.

Frank, did you use the Garmin bike mount and a custom bracket attached to it?

Loren, I got the mount which included the Garmin mount from ebay. I will try to find it. The bracket is a universal mount.

I will post the info when I find it. The GPS actually sits a little low so you have to look down at it but I really like it to check my speed. We all know how accurate those mechanical speedos are.

Loren, I was mistaken. I got the GPS mount and the plate for the bike separate. I will have to check tomorrow on the mounting plate but the part number for the GPS cradle and HW is Garmin P/N 010-10610-00.

I got all this stuff awhile ago but never got around to installing it till today. The Quest 2 seems to be bullet proof otherwise I would get a Zumo 550.

I more impressed with the Blueant Bluetooth Interphone system Lynn and I are using. It helps being able to talk to her especially (while she is riding her bike) when in traffic.

Another option - I have a Quest II - is a regular ol' HD part. I used the bracket from the 96-earlier Ultras that held the CB mic. Bolts to the switch housing and I drilled it for the garmin cradle. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Here is the plate I used. http://www4.shopping.com/xPO-Bracketron-Mount-Harl ey-Motorcycle-CMM201CH-Category-GPS-Mounting-Suppl ies

There are many options out there that may be better. I am sure Joe can post a part number for his setup.

BTW Loren, you can make a plate to mount anything you have then get some long screws and spacers from any hardware store and you have the same setup. I can send more detailed pics if you wish. Frank

Joe, can you post a pic of your setup so we can see what is out there. I think Buffalobolt had a functional and neat setup as well.

Loren, if I were to make a mounting plate I would angle it back so you can view the GPS better however, for my purposes this is fine. I think this would be more critical on the S2 bars vice the S2T bars.

More pictures because the mounting plate would be so easy to make since it is just chromed metal with holes that attaches to the brake collar.

Bottom bolt

Top and back part

This is all you need for hardware, longer screws and some spacers.

I tried to recreate were my head would be while riding but realized my head would be up a couple of more inches.

While searching last night I found many solutions that would mount to the bars and bring the gps up and towards the front of the bike a little more or you can mount it right in the middle between the two bars. It is not really an issue for me.

Frank, it looks like a real clean way to install one. I make have to rethink using the Ram mount hard wired. Since the GPS mount will be hard wired into the bike, there is no need for quick on and off the Ram hardware provides. Hmm....

I bought a couple of the Garmin mounts kits with the hard wire. One for the S2 and one for the S3T since it didn't look like with the hard wire it would be real easy to swap the mount back and fourth.

I had my IQue mounted with Ram mounts on the S3T.....gravity decided the IQue needed to be in the dirt someplace on Mount Princeton (it fell out of the tank bag).

Since I already had some of the Ram mounting hardware I was going to mount the GPS down between the bars and attached to one of the bars via a Ram mount. It's on my ever growing "To Do List" before the trip to Texas.

So, are you riding the S2 to the Gathering???

I have been playing with an idea and will need the GPS where it is in order to make it work.

A rear facing camera may be going between the bars but I will try it on the other S2 first.

Ahh, so you can see your tail wagging behind you. Cool idea.

Or you could use a setup like this. It should provide broad enough coverage.

Yes that plan is to ride the S2 to the gathering.

My To Do List:

Mount GPS

Custom Backrest - Backrest post needs a dog leg bend it it to move the rest to the rear to allow more room on the saddle.

Mount the NRHS air clear and route new breather line and catch can. (Set up is stock now and my right leg gets oil mist on it.)

Rework right hand isolator for new kick stand mounting angle and rework a stand.

Wide saddle bag fail safe & latching devices...etc

And figure out how to pack really LIGHT for two!!

OK, here's the *two* shots that came out. I couldn't get any shots from the grip side to come clear, but I'll try again tomorrow.

It's the camera, not the margaritas. I swear. : )

Anyway, you can see the mic mount is kinda C shaped. I did file the Garmin mount on an angle a little bit to point the screen up some...but I still feel like it's pointed at my navel. The 'front' pic gives you an idea of where it's located in relation to the switchgear.

And yes. The "do not touch" sign is a requirement at work. If I had a nickel for every time I had to get someone's ass off my bike.....like the license plate and 25k miles aren't an indication that it BELONGS TO SOMEONE. <sigh>

33 Degrees out today but still a nice day for a ride. Now if only a good rain would wash the sand off the road. I guess we will have to wait for that.
