I had noticed that my belt looks somewhat out of alignment specially around the front drive so I removed the cover and guess what the sprocket nut is loose. Not enough to back out but easy to turn by hand once the plate is removed. The manual has an extensive method for torquing the nut but that appears to deal with when removing the transmission, etc. It says 50 lb-ft initial torque and then turn certain degrees, etc. Can I just tighten it up at 50 lb-ft and use loctite red and be done?

no you can't do it that way. you really need to tighten it the additional amount. 90 degrees is 1/4 turn. i put a piece of pipe through the wheel and let it push against the swingarm and then tightened the appropriate amount. it's been so long i don't remember the number.

I did the first 50 lb-ft and marked the nut and the pulley. I then tried (really hard) to turn it another 45 degrees according to the book but the best I could do was ~15-20 degrees. Just couldn't keep the rear wheel from moving even with a piece of wood through the wheel against the swing arm. So I reluctantly put the plate and fortunately the holes lined up perfectly. I will revisit the nut after a few miles once I can think of a better way to get that extra 25 degrees turn. I did put plenty of red loctite on the bolt.
