I have a '97 M2 with about 16500 miles. Out on a trip this weekend and I blew a head gasket. I hauled it home. Tore it down today found it's not just the head gasket, but the jug (or lower head) is grooved and that the wrist pin is bad. At this point it's either fix it or part it out. If I fix it where would you even begin to find replacement engine parts? If I part it out I'd like to sell the whole thing (I know there are some M2 riders who would love to have the extra parts that are getting even harder to find). Any advice? Anyone rebuilt an engine in one of these? Anyone parted out their bike? | ||

i did in my 2002 put a 1250 kit on it if you have the service manual it pretty simple | ||

I would second the idea of aftermarket cylinders and pistons (nikasil if you can). Parts should be plentiful as your '97 would run flat top pistons and can be bought almost anywhere, even a Harley dealer. Frequently thunderstorm top ends come up for sale also so you may be able to upgrade both jugs and heads for a good price. | ||

Pm old biker_3 i know hes got a brand new Cylinder(jug),you'd most likely get for a good price(i bought the piston kit). http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 576130.html piston kits are pretty cheap on ebay. $300ish should have you back up and running. | ||

Thanks for the advice guys, I was afraid I was up a creek. Any place in particular you'd recommend to start looking for parts? (I PM'd old biker BTW). Upgrading may be an option, but I may want a more economical choice (new baby and all). I'm not really sure that I want to deal with a Harley Dealership, but I will if I need to. | ||
