What do folks use to keep the gasket "seals" attached to the back half of the hard cases? Just regular RTV? I do wish EB had farmed these items out to Germany for design/manufacture!

Um,
I just re-read this - it doesn't read like I wanted it to - I was talking about the saddlebags. I meant the rubber seal gasket that goes onto the back of the inner saddlebags - mine fall right off the fiberglass edge of the inner (black) saddlebag piece. Shouldn't these be fully adhered? Any reason not to?

Chris, Do some searching for a post Frank did on some JC Whitney auto trim to replace the OE gaskets. It works well and it is a press fit, so no adhesive required.

Man, I thought Frank's seals looked "too good to be true" in the fail-safe thread!

Thanks!

So Frank used either this, which looks pretty straightforward with not much pretension to keeping the weather out:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/flexible-interior/exterio r-trims/p2008663.jcwx

or one of these, which is kind of similar but with a compressible weatherstripping piece as well as the clip-on edge protection:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/push-on-trim-weatherstrip s-for-doors-trunks-windows/p2008597.jcwx#

I just don't have the mileage on the S2T to know from experience which one would work best.

It would be the first one. I followed Frank's lead and did the same on mine and no they are not weather/water tight. I bag everything going it the bag liners so no big deal.

I think you will find that there is not enough clearance between the lid and base to use the second one above.

Chris, you will not be able to make them water tight without lining up all the HW perfectly... and doing it many times over as it gets out of wack... I use a plastic garage bag to wrap every thing up in and it helps it you treat the inner Buell bags with some type water proofing spray that is used on tents.

Eve then they will not be totally water proof but the again, my German engineered Uly bags weren't either...

" it helps it you treat the inner Buell bags with some type water proofing spray that is used on tents. "

That is, if your bike came with the inner bags (mine did not).

Why do I see left hand inner bags available only, just the same way you now see only right hand NOS fork assemblies. What's with that?!

Your in luck... You do not have to worry about the bags and can just use garbage bags... Do you have the large or small lids.

The reason I ask is it you have the small lids you cannot pack much in there anyways...

I use a waterproof bag (and is really is) across the back of the bike. Let me see if I can find a link.

I can *see* my luggage in my bags, with the lids closed.

I don't even try to get the S2 bags to be waterproof, or even resistant. I just use plastic bags, large or small lids (I have both).

The way I look at it...everything would be just as wet on my back, and at least in the saddlebags I don't have to wear a backpack and have weight on my back : )

Why are you putting stuff on your back?

I Highly recommend spraying the bags. You would be surprised how much water they will collect.PLUS put everything in plastic. You cannot go wrong. DAMHIK.

Yeah, usually one would wrap everything inside any textile bag with plastic bags. I have both large and small cases. I love the Aerostitch duffel. I was just looking at a Nelson-Rigg tail bag that I thought would fit well over the pillion seat and tail, and I could steal the nylon webbing/side buckle failsafe idea for the bags, but use the side buckles to clip the Nelson Rigg bag onto the bike: combination saddlebag fail-safe and tail bag anchor.

Here's the link to the bag (inexpensive, on closeout):
http://www.newenough.com/parts/closeouts/luggage/n elson_rigg/cl_150_expandable_sport_tail_pack.html

and the installation instructions that show its built-in sidebuckle straps (for attaching to Nelson Rigg saddlebags, but could work with well-placed fail-safes on the S2 saddlebags):
http://www.newenough.com/nehp_images/pdf_files/nel son_rigg/cl75_100_150_200_700_750_ssc165.pdf

The only tough part in all this is that, when she sees all the carrying capacity of this setup, my wife would want to come along, and this uses the pillion seat (she doesn't ride).

Frank - I don't put stuff on my back unless I'm on the CR or the S1W : ) My point was, if I have stuff on my back, it gets wet. If I put stuff in the S2 bags, it gets wet...but at least it isn't on my back.

The Uly stuff is pretty funny, considering my bags stay nice and dry. Maybe it's the level of grime on my bike, helps seal up the bags ; )

Frank/Gowindward,which style option of the first link did you use?Was a roll long enough?
It looks like I'd need 120" or better to do my bags.

Style A, Black 1/32" - 1/16" thick 7/16" height, Flexible Interior And Exterior Trim SKU #: 1JA 890791

I agree with Frank on treating the inner bags with a water proofing like Camp Dry.

I like these for packing tight and dry inside the inner bags.
