A couple of days ago, my wife and I were riding my '02 S3T, when it got extremely difficult to shift into 5th gear. When I removed the primary chain, clutch basket,etc., I noticed that the detent plate looked strange, so I removed the clip & took it off. The one shift drum pin was sticking out farther than the rest, so I'm going to tap it back in & I was wondering if there is any way to replace the detent with a better system than the little clip that holds it on. Do you have to replace the whole shifter drum? Thanks for any help!}}

I think there is an after-market solution:

I can't tell if it's just swapping out the screw or if you have to swap out the entire shifter drum.

Jeff,
I've seen that a number of times on different tubers.

When possible I've pulled the offending pin(s), cleaned them and the drum hole with carb cleaner then hit them with a THIN film of Locktite Red and tapped them back in the drum. Otherwise I just tapped them back in place.
It's been a good fix for all of them. No additional problems.

Do not reuse the detent plate clip, they are REALLY cheap and not worth inviting problems..

Thanks so much for your help! I cleaned the offending pin and put a little green loctite on ALL the pins and tapped it back in with a new clip and all seems OK. Hopefully I won't have any more problems with it for at least another 50,000 mi. or so. Thanks again!!!
