I have a stock 99 s3 I have just installed a Vance and Hines pipe. Some where on this forem there was a how to do modification to the airbox that was a low cost option.
Then on to the ecm spy.

Is running this bike with just the pipe a bad idea I can wait for the additional mods

You should have no problem running as is. The ECM should compensate for the pipe. In the old magazine "Battletwin", the stock "Breadbox" actually performed very well. Most people just couldn't handle the appearance. I don't remember if they make a K&N for the stock airbox, but that would be an improvement. And finally, ECMspy would bring everything together for maximum performance, but if you don't want to mess with it maybe a race ECM would be an option.

they do make a k&n for the stock box. i had the same mod on my bike.
it's a k&n filter, remove the snorkel, relocate the iat sensor to a safe place in there, add the carb/throttle body air cone & relocate the breather hoses to point towards the throttle opening. (or better yet to a catch can)the kit came with breather hoses & a new 90deg fitting.

the carb cone can be had at any harley dealer for cheap, i think it's only $2 or $3. the air filter box stays & some people opened the snorkel hole in it to much larger. including me.
