Seeing as the Texas S2 Step is winding down I will shortly announce the UP gathering. I have nailed down an area and hopefully a location. I will be calling them Monday as tomorrow I will be leaving for an out of state wedding. I am looking at a hotel but a near camp ground for those that would rather camp. But my idea of roughing it is a hotel with basic cable  Look for the major thread starting Monday afternoon... | ||

Keep some things in mind as you look for a venue to support the gathering. Some of us are CHEAP! $85 was a good price for where we were, and Jay did well to schedule the event before the vacation season started. On the first gathering, I stayed in a neighboring town because the host hotel was too expensive for me. while I too, like basic cable, i didn't miss it at Camp Live Oak, we had such a good time, and Jay did such a good job of keeping our simple minds occupied. Keep it close to the ride loops, make sure mass quantities of alcohol are available, and close by. and lastly, make sure we have cellphone service! I went to a USMC event last week and met a neat new friend, David McCallum. He used to be on the Man From U.N.C.L.E. when I was a kid and, he says, is still on the tube. He's Scottish and was not in the USMC but his wife's Father and Brother were both Marines, her Dad was at Iwo Jima and she lost her brother in Viet Nam, and he's adopted the cause. We're going to their house for dinner next Tuesday and I'm eager to get to know him better. . . perhaps a Buell convert. If I had to have someone in combat with me (note: I have never been, just got the training) and all I knew was that they rode an S2 . . I'd think we were off to a great start. | ||

I vote for the most expensive place you can find. If Bar cannot make it..... Well, I have a picture of him Brad can play with.... The scariest time I had was not in war time but on the SENIOR SCOUT (google it) a few days after a EP3 landed in China.... The stuff that does not make the news... I would be comfortable sharing a bunker with Bart as long as no orange stuff in a Mason Jar was handy... Aim High... | ||

Hey Spidy,I`m only 100mi. from the Big Mac.LMK if you need help w/planing rts. or what ever.I`ve spent alot of time there and riden alot of roads.A must see trip is Rt.26 N. of Rt 38 up to Cooper Harbor and back Rt. 41 down to Baraga.Also Rt. 35 S. from Ishpeming to Little Lake is a perfect S2 TWESTY ROAD.123 From Newberry to Paradise is stuning.Can you tell I`m excited! | ||

"We got`s lot`sa time spidy!" You might be surprised at how far in advance it take to reserve accommodations for a group. Accommodations for 2012 are already in the bag. If I had been trying to make them for 2011, I would have had some road blocks because of the number of rooms needed. | ||

Okay, this one might be doable (do-able? Able to be done? Get to-able? S2-able? (Hmmm, license plate option "S2ABLE", nah looks too much like SABLE, never mind) back to the surface discussion and spelling). How close do you anticipate the gathering spot will be to the long swaying grated bridge up there? And will that bridge be on one of the ride routes? Maybe incorporate it into an event souvenir design, or not. Depending upon where I'll be when it happens I want to try and make this one. I really need to do my steering bearings now, that bridge would be suicidal with a sloppy headset. Ouch. Bookmarking this thread so I can find it again. |
