Hey guys, When I got my X1 my chin fairing wasn't on the bike, and I didn't have the shock mount bracket for it. Well i've gotten the shock mount bracket and am ready to put it on. How much of a pain is it to do this as a one man job with no jack and or no stands? from what I can tell it goes in between the shock and the shock mount, which means I unbolt the shock and remove it so I can get the bracket in. Well it looks to me that its not as easy as that with the weight of the bike on the shock and so-on...is this a wait for dealer service and get them to put it on thing or what? Just wanna say how much of a valuable resource this site has been already..glad to know after searching i'm not the only one who's fuel filter has cracked on them..lol Gray | ||

Suspend the arse end from the rafter with a couple of straps (tire off the ground), then place a jack under the rear tire so you can easily position it height-wise. This will make it very easy to move the rear suspension around. | ||

I've done it 3 times by myself. But, the last time I forgot which end of the motor to put the jack under. The rear collapsed when I took the front bolt out, breaking my (then new) carbon hugger. Not fun. I've had one bracket just snap, I guess from vibration fatigue. | ||

Don't try to do this project without raising the back end to unload the swingarm, doing the job alone it will be a huge pain to get it all back together if you do, honestly I don't think you can reassemble without the rear end being raised. You can use automotive jack stands by placing them under the passenger peg brackets. Place one under the right bracket then carefully rock the bike up onto it from the side-stand, then slide the other stand into place with your foot on the left side. Use a block of wood, or whatever's handy to slide under the tire to raise the wheel slightly and line everything up right for easy reassembly at the shock's front mount. Be careful, it's really frustrating to drop your bike and bung up your swing-arm and expensive CF parts cause you were in a hurry to get it all done! |
